JOB DETAILS:
The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a dynamic Agricultural Systems Scientist to develop and implement a toolbox for the implementation of Add-on activities, KPI assessment and MELIA activities within the Use Cases associated with The Excellence in Agronomy (EiA) Initiative.
About the Initiative: As part of its 2030 Research and Innovation Strategy, CGIAR has launched the global Excellence in Agronomy Initiative (EiA) to deliver agronomic gain for millions of smallholder farming
households in prioritized farming systems, with emphasis on women and young farmers for measurable impact on food and nutrition security, income, water use, soil health and climate resilience.
The scaling model of EiA is organized around demand-driven Use Cases, operating in a defined target area, and focusing on the development, validation, and scaling of an agronomic solution, formulated through a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The MVPs are expected to deliver agronomic gain for smallholder farmers in relation to (i) increased yield, profitability, and/or yield quality, (ii) climate change adaptation and reduced risk, (iii) increased resource use efficiencies, and (iv) improved soil health. These indicators are referred to as the ‘agronomic gain key performance indicators’ (KPIs), prioritized by EiA. EiA has established teams of experts to support Use Case teams during the design, development, validation, and piloting of their MVPs, for analysing and considering various systems-related areas of
interest1 , referred to as ‘Add-on activities to the Use Cases’. In addition, a KPI team has been put in place to ensure integration of KPI assessment in the Use Cases and Add-on activities, as well as a Monitoring & Evaluation, Learning and Impact assessment (MELIA) team which is collaborating with other teams to implement MELIA activities within the Use Cases.
The position: The selected candidate will work closely with Add-on, KPI, MELIA and Use Case teams and he/she will be based in a country in East Africa.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Facilitate regular interactions between Add-on, KPI, MELIA and Use Case teams for the integration of Add-on activities, KPI assessment and MELIA activities within Use Cases.
• Coordinate the development and implementation of an Add-on toolbox that is digitally accessible to Use Case teams, EiA partners and beyond.
• Organize capacity building activities for Use Case teams, focused on data collection, data analysis and learning for MVP design and scaling, to enable the implementation of Add-on activities.
• Conduct data analysis to extract learnings on farming systems dynamics and characteristics of farmer communities to inform Use Case strategies.
• Facilitate collaboration between Add-on/KPI teams and EiA data analysis support functions. 1 Yield gap decomposition; Farmer segmentation; Gender- and youth-responsiveness; Climate change adaptation/mitigation potential; Ex-ante impact assessment; Assessment of current agronomic practices,
