Background
The African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) is conducting a significant research study to document the factors, actors, behaviors, trends, developments, issues, and influences shaping Uganda’s journalism and news media landscape. This study will explore the state of media freedom while providing a detailed and up-to-date snapshot of the sector.
The findings will provide critical empirical evidence on the rapidly changing media consumption patterns, regulatory environment, and trends impacting the industry. By examining the perspectives of journalists, editors, newsroom leaders, media owners, regulators, trainers, and audiences, this research will support advocacy, programming, and capacity development efforts for Uganda's journalism and news media.

Objective
ACME seeks an Associate Researcher to support its research efforts. The selected candidate will assist in documenting and mapping the state of Uganda’s media landscape and contribute to the development of the State of Uganda’s Media Landscape Report 2024. This research will inform evidence-based programming, advocacy, civic engagement, and professional development initiatives.

Scope of Work
The Associate Researcher will work closely with the Principal Researcher and perform the following tasks:
1. Implementation of Research Plan: Assist in executing a structured research plan that will feed into the final report.
2. Preparation of the Report: Collaborate with the Principal Researcher to produce a high-quality State of Uganda’s Media Landscape Report 2024.
3. Content Development: Process research findings into user-friendly content and formats for diverse audiences.
4. Delivery Support: Support the efficient delivery of all research outputs, ensuring high standards and timeliness.

Tasks and Deliverables
As part of this role, the Associate Researcher will:
1. Participate in a media research agenda workshop to guide the study’s direction.
2. Contribute to a detailed concept note outlining the research’s roadmap.
3. Attend an inception meeting to validate the concept note.
4. Collect and analyze data according to the research plan.
5. Contribute to the draft report and attend a validation session for feedback.
6. Assist in finalizing the report.
7. Prepare research findings into materials and products for dissemination (e.g., reports, briefs, and multimedia content).

Duration of the Assignment
This assignment will run from January to June 2025.

Payment
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with market rates, qualifications, and experience.
