JOB DETAILS:
The Agribusiness Development Centre (ADC) was formed in 2017 by its two founding members: Rabo Foundation and dfcu Limited with the aim of promoting Self Sufficiency in target customer segments towards Agricultural Transformation in Uganda.

This is being done through offering its chosen market segment (Farmer Based Organizations (FBO), Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) capacity building, business accelerator opportunities and facilitating relevant linkages through innovations and collaborations to grow, build and promote a prospect of a sustainable future.

ADC is scaling multiple programs including the Business Accelerator Program, Price Risk Management Program, Hi-Innovator Program, and the Agricultural Exchange Program dubbed ‘dfcu katale’ (which is a marketplace application that ADC is scaling as part of its Last Mile Delivery and agency retail model, aspiring to grow both demand and supply linkages within the identified agricultural value chains).

This anchor program is driving the ADC cross-programing aimed at resulting in building synergies among its programs while extending more value to its core stakeholders and the Agricultural Value Chain players that ADC exists to serve.

Position Summary
ADC is undertaking the last mile delivery of the agricultural Exchange program (dfcu Katale), involving pre-onboarding engagements, onboarding, training, digital support, relation building, Business Advisory, Technical assistance as well as credit and market linkages pipelining and management.

This therefore requires Customer Value Proposition delivery, refinement per stakeholder, engagement with the players in the delivery agency network, the mining of the different agricultural value chains for not only input providers, aggregators, buyers but including service providers among other things. As part of the bundled offering avail tailored training, and support to the participants.

ADC is thus seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Business Advisor-General for the program and any other assigned programs to undertake coordination of the program schedules, resources, program drives, program linkage; trace program results and ensure all program tasks link to the program objectives and intended outcomes and benefits. Undertake regular program communications with internal and external ADC stakeholders while managing programs budget and liaising with the Project Manager Innovations coordinated program leadership to remove blockers and ensure program workstreams successfully complete within both time, and budget.

The Project is for five (5) years.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Business Advisor -General, will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Business Development
1. Participate in ADC’s business development initiatives by identifying, scoring, and recommending clients who require ADC’s services/intervention areas.
2. Participate in the development and implementation of project work plans and budgets.
3. Facilitate smooth communication and cooperation between ADC and key
stakeholders including clients, community leaders, government officials and partners.
4. Undertake an advisory role to stakeholders on technical issues relating to the implementation of ADC initiatives to ensure that best practices are applied.

Business Advisory
5. Take practical lead on availing integrated business diagnosis of Agribusiness and proposing possible interventions for the enterprises that ADC works with
6. Availing technical assistance to Agribusinesses to enable them better their business models, marketing approaches, better their revenues and create jobs.
7. Support Agribusinesses come up with models, policies, plans and other structural instruments that support their growth.
8. Avail training, mentorship and coaching to the assigned Agribusinesses or Farmer Based organizations.

Value Chain Mining
1. Review the different players in the various agricultural value chains and ensure these are fully mapped.
2. Create an engagement strategy for the value chain players of their assigned agribusiness enterprise or FBO.
3. Ensure the onboarding, activation of these value chain players on the dfcu Katale and other ADC platforms and initiatives including the Hi-Innovator.
4. Ensure service value extension to the value chain players including but not limited to advisory, technical assistance, financial and market Linkages.

Resource Mobilization
1. Identify potential funding partners and innovative funding opportunities based on strategic initiatives to secure and expand recurring revenue streams.
2. Develop resource mobilization presentations, proposals, and briefing notes; participating in donor and membership meetings and assist the Resource Mobilization Officer in the finalization of donor agreements.
3. Develop donor profiles and maintain relations with donors to ensure continued funding.

Capacity Development
1. Participate in creation, upgrade and refinement of Training content.
2. Contribute to the design of the capacity-building strategy, design of working tools, and development of standards, guidelines and processes which support quality of capacity development approaches.
3. Carry out identification of needs for capacity-building actions through needs collection and analysis.
4. Schedule cohort/ group client trainings using the formal curriculum in place.
5. Monitor the adoption of trainings given and utility of facilities linked to Trainees.
6. Mentor and provide one to one support to clients to close unique capacity gaps and ensure they have relevant systems & procedures in place resulting in a high profit business environment.
7. Strengthen the agriculture ecosystem by facilitating coordination and collaboration among the clients who participate in ADC capacity development initiatives.
8. Identify and help resolve problems and conflicts that arise in relation to ongoing project/s.
9. Support the digital team in the development of e-channel products and services by providing required information.
10. Maintain an archive of key documents and keep records concerning project activity for reporting purposes.
11. Keep up-to date information on each client’s training logs, action plans, field visits and communication.
12. Ensure the values of participation, partnership, sustainability, social responsibility, cost effectiveness, transparency and accountability are reflected in your work.

Stakeholder Engagements
1. Following training and/or mentorship, co-create solutions with clients.
2. Develop and build strong foundations for successful capacity-building partnerships for ADC clients.
3. Link ADC clients meeting the criterion for support, to development partners to enable them access finance and marketing opportunities.
4. Ensure good working relationships and proper sharing of information amongst stakeholders.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
1. Preparation of call reports and other periodic reports with recommendations that inform high level decision making.
2. Avail timely accountabilities to the Finance and Administration Manager.
3. Identifying and monitoring of activities of the Community Based Workers
4. Assist the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning staff in the collection of information in accordance with the project’s monitoring and evaluation plan.
5. Share with the ME&L staff learnings and success stories obtained from clients.

Risk Management
1. Support ED in overall identification of departmental risks for placement into the risk register.
2. Manage and monitor compliance with relevant legislation.
3. Monitor and contribute to internal risk treatment strategies and activities.
4. Ensure that processes are in place across the Advisory team to manage and treat identified risk appropriately as a departmental Risk Champion.

Experience
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with extensive Agribusiness, financial and training experience to grow and further develop this new training program that will make significant impact in the agricultural sector in Uganda. Specific requirements include:
• Flexible (no 8-5 mentality), able and willing to frequently travel to rural places in Uganda
• Experience as business advisor/consultant for Agribusinesses
• Knowledge of the functioning of Farmer Based Organizations in Uganda
• Diplomatic skills to develop partnership with governmental and business entities
• Committed to smallholder farmers’ economic development
• Good analytical and communication skills.
• Respectful and patient attitude, pro-active, convincing and target-driven
• Able and willing to work independently
• Excellent command of Computer skills (MS Office, preferably Accounting software).
• Demonstrable skills in Management Information Systems [MIS] for learning.
• Open to explore new models and AgriFin practical tools in Financial Services
• Having specific knowledge of agriculture or a specialization in financial management or business law will be of added value
• Unwavering commitment to data-driven program monitoring & evaluation.
• Fluent in English

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in; Agribusiness, Agriculture, Business Law, Finance, Economics or related studies from an accredited college or university is required. A minimum of three years’ experience in a related field is required. Experience in the private and financial sector is highly desirable. A master’s degree in any of the above fields is an added advantage.

Language Requirements:
Fluency in written and spoken English a must, good knowledge and understanding of local language of the region an added advantage.
