JOB DETAILS:
POSITION SUMMARY
The main purpose of the role is to provide effective and efficient support to country programmes in project design, proactive donor engagement, and proposal development to develop quality, sustainable programs, and a diverse donor funding base. An important component of the role will be donor-facing and working to identify and create new opportunities for the organization across a diverse network and ensure that our country programmes are supported to produce consistently high-quality proposals. The position is responsible for driving the growth of quality programming in our country's programmes as well as increasing our reputation with donor agencies, partners locally, and with the wider international development community.
This role reports to the Executive Director and works closely with Programs, Finance, and projects, and any other relevant teams across The Water Trust to support institutional donor engagement efforts. This role is responsible for resource mobilization, funding strategy, and implementation oversight in the region (incl. coordination of fundraising initiatives across the region).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identify and respond to new funding opportunities from existing and new donors within the agreed country, regional, and global funding strategies in close coordination with global partners, fundraising members, and other relevant TWT teams.
• Ensure effective and fruitful donor relations, to proactively identify and cultivate funding opportunities primarily at the country, regional, and global level. Working across all teams to coordinate effective relationships across the shared platform and the alliance to maximize quality proposal development.
• Support the strengthening of capacity at the country level in donor engagement, proposal development, and quality project design.
• Lead the process of developing fundraising strategies, maintaining accurate and proactively determined pipeline projections, and initiating and maintaining critical relationships with specific donors.
• Responsible for maintaining records, relevant databases, and core documentation on Salesforce and other shared systems and platforms.
• Contribute to upholding a culture committed to the safeguarding of children, and adults and compliant to all TWT policies.
• Perform any other duty as deemed necessary by Management from time to time.

Key Result Areas
Development of funding strategies and action plans
• Support the design and implementation of country-specific funding strategies with country teams, including the fundraising component of annual plans and country strategies.
• Monitoring institutional donor calls at country or regional level for proposals and funding cycles – donor identified, relationships developed, funding secured.
• Maintain a comprehensive pipeline of secured and prospective funding, ensuring that submission deadlines are met and that proposals meet expected quality standards.

Donor mapping and engagement
• Donor identification, diversifying range of contacts and opportunities, and working with the Executive Director and Senior Management team to position TWT for project submission.
• Collaborate with donor account managers at the global level to align donor engagement strategies and engagement.
• Support strategic partnership development and prepositioning for large-scale calls for proposals.

High Quality Proposal Development
• Working with TWT Management team to develop “generic” concept notes in line with TWT Programme and funding strategies.
• Facilitate design workshops with technical experts, Mgt teams, and key stakeholders to develop quality theories of change.
• Leading the proposal development process, advising the Management team, and ensuring all relevant team members have been consulted. Input on design and encourage innovation.
• Support ad hoc fundraising teams on restricted proposal development and identification of funding needs.
• Develop and review logframe, narratives, and budgets to ensure consistency and quality control.
• Ensure the consistent application of the proposal development process across a designated portfolio of TWT programs, including the development and rollout of related tools and resources.

Partnership development
• Support International, regional, and country partnership identification and cultivation.
• Building The Water Trust’s profile and connections to better position for working in consortia, both as lead and sub-contractor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
Essential
• Experienced in program funding with an (I)NGO.
• Proven experience in developing country funding strategies and cultivation plans.
• Experience in rallying stakeholders/ implementing partners to participate in consortia.
• Knowledgeable of the international funding environment and donor interests, having experience working in partnership with bilateral and multilateral donors.
• Knowledge and experience working with private philanthropy including individual donors and foundations
• Experienced in developing high-quality donor proposals.
• Strategic vision to identify new opportunities for organizations (INGO)
• Experienced in working and coordinating with colleagues remotely.
• Proactive, entrepreneurial, and takes initiative to develop relationships with key stakeholders.
• Self-motivated, works accurately and efficiently to deadlines, and manages multiple priorities.
• Able to process and articulate complex issues in a clear and coherent way so that these can be shared with relevant donors, which requires an ability to understand and communicate with a variety of audiences.
• Eager to support the development and capacity of teams.
• Highly organized: demonstrated ability to manage information.
• Strong ethics
