SCOPE OF THE ROLE:
PlayMatters Project (2020-2025) is an education initiative funded through a $100 million grant from the LEGO Foundation. The program reimagines childhood for 800,000+ refugee and host-community children across Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda - children whose education and social development has been affected by displacement and trauma.
Building on children’s amazing resilience and a growing evidence base supporting Learning through Play (LtP) methodologies, PlayMatters (PM) cultivates holistic learning for children ages 3-12+. PlayMatters is led by the International Rescue Committee and includes Plan International, War Child Holland, Innovations for Poverty Action, the Behavioral Insights Team in partnership with the LEGO Foundation.
The project therefore intends to recruit strong potentials to oversee all activities at the ECCD Centres and Community Play Spaces within the 18 zones where IRC operates under PlayMatters, both in the Settlement and host communities
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Facilitate ECCD sessions monthly at ECCD Centres /Play sessions for children in the community.
• Assist in supervising early learning/Play programme for children in the Community.
• Encourage families and community to work collectively for effective Play, development and protection of every child, three to eight years.
• Participate in regular monthly 5 days training, planning and reviews, 1-day monthly meetings and quarterly meetings.
• Collect data for School attendance and compile a monthly report on ECD activities in the ECCD centres.
• Coordinate and work hand in hand with school and key stakeholders in your community.
• Raise awareness on the importance of Play and Early childhood development in the Community.
• Maintain a file(s) of records/ statistics and events that take place in the school and Community under the Play-Matters project.
• Develop any other education session materials available in the community that encourages learning through Play.
• Take and maintain records of education sessions encouraging play.
• Carry out home visits for mobilization of children to go to school.
• Ensure safe and protective environments for children mostly for Play.
• Organize and conduct teacher parent conferences, encouraging play.
• Keep record and acknowledgement of receipt of item received from IRC.
• Confidentiality: Ensuring the non-disclosure of any information whatsoever relating to the practices and business of IRC acquired in the course of duty, to any other person or organization without authority, except in the normal execution of duty.
The IRC and IRC workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in IRC Way - Standards for Professional Conduct. These are Integrity, Service, and Accountability. In accordance with these values, the IRC operates and enforces policies on Beneficiary Protection from Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, and Anti-Retaliation
Note: The role of the Caregiver ECCD Volunteer cannot be limited to the specific duties and tasks detailed herein. The success of the IRC’s humanitarian mission is the highest priority and all issues which arise must be addressed. Accordingly. Therefore, s/he will be required to manage all unforeseen issues and circumstances and remain Flexible to perform any other duties, as and when required.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Caregiver ECCD Volunteer job must have.
• O’ or A’ Level Certificate, CCP (UNCIEF program) Certificate & Diploma in ECCD, one who has been teaching in the ECCD centers and retired teacher is added advantage.
• Experience in teaching or records management is an added advantage. working experience in an ECCD Centre has upper hand.
• Previous work with an NGO on similar programs is desirable.
• Previous experience as a teacher or teaching assistant will be an added advantage.
• Must be refugee or national living and registered in Kyaka II settlement.
• Fluency in written and oral skills in English language.
• Knowledge of refugee local languages (Kiswahili, Kinyarwanda Lingala etc.) an added advantage.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively manage a variety of relationships in a multicultural, multi-agency environment.
• The preferred candidate should be those who have completed education and are therefore not currently enrolled in any ongoing education programs.
• Flexible work attitude: the ability to work in a team environment & independently and ability to meet unexpected demands.
