Job title: Chief Executive Officer
Background:
The Agent Banking Company of Uganda Limited (ABC) is a joint venture company established to build and operate the shared Agent Banking Platform for financial institutions regulated by the Central Bank of Uganda. Agent Banking is intended to drive financial inclusion by increasing financial services outreach (address access barriers) to the underserved/ under/unbanked.
Launched in April 2018, the objective of the shared platform was to establish a common interoperable platform that connects financial institutions to the agency network so that one agent can support the agency activities of any member financial institution and their respective customers at a lower/shared cost of expansion as well as have the ability to upgrade technology (scalability) with minimal re-work and capital expenditure, while member financial institutions focus on their intermediation business. Today 22 financial institutions are connected to the platform enabling over 20,000 agents spread across the country serving over 10 million customers via a range of services.
The operations of the Agent Banking Company are supervised and regulated by the Central Bank of Uganda as per the National Payment Systems Act 2020 and the Company was issued with a payment systems operator (Large funds Transfer & Clearing Systems & Switches) license by the Central Bank of Uganda on 22nd October 2021.
Opening for Chief Executive Officer Position:
he Board of Directors of ABC (U) LTD seek to recruit and bring on board a chief executive officer whose key responsibility entails providing leadership and strategic management for all activities & operations aimed at the realization of ABC's mission and vision.
Reporting to the board of directors, the specific responsibilities of the CEO will include the following,
• To lead, manage and supretend over all ABC staff to achieve increased value creation, internal control, accountability and risk management at ABC.
• Be responsible for developing business strategy and implementation of budget and plans therein including driving revenue growth, profitability and growth of the business of ABC.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements that govern Agent Banking business and that sound practices are followed in conducting the operations of ABC including ensuring disaster recovery preparedness, information security and control structures & procedures are in place.

Work hand in hand with all supervised financial institutions as follows,
• Manage the relationship with UBA Secretariat/Member SFIs on the platform to maximize utilization of the system.
• Coordinate resources required therein.
• Coordinate internal project resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless delivery of ABC objectives.
• Resolve cross-functional issues.
• Work closely with the JV Partner responsible for technical matters related to ABC's operations & ICT and prepare/provide periodic reports to the Board of Directors from time to time. Work and manage the relationship with stakeholders including Bank of Uganda, development partners, service providers as appropriate and & build other external partnerships/networks with stakeholders to further the mission of ABC in the market place.
• Work closely with the JV Partner responsible for technical matters related to ABC's operations & ICT and prepare/provide periodic reports to the Board of Directors from time to time.

Job Requirements
Education
Minimum education level: Good first degree in a relevant business management discipline, Any other additional qualifications (MBA, MSC, MA, ML and/or Professional Qualifications) will be taken into account as well.
Experience
At least 5 years in a senior leadership role with experience and evidence of engagements at high level including and not limited to strategy development, digital financial services, institutional development, and execution capabilities. Experience in the financial sector, DFS/fintech world or commercial operations in the telecoms sector as well as dynamics including regulatory environment will be taken into account.
