JOB DETAILS:
Client Brief
Our client is a Uganda-based award willing leader in gorilla and wildlife conservation championing the health of wildlife and ecosystems and humans and their livestock in and around Africa's protected areas. Our client has three strategic programs to reduce threats to the endangered mountain gorillas, other wildlife, and their habitats: gorilla conservation, One Health (addressing human, animal and environmental health together) and alternative livelihoods. They achieve these programs through delivering services that improve wildlife, livestock, and community health and conservation education through peer-to-peer education and community-based behavior change communication. They also conduct research and advocacy to achieve their goals.

Responsibilities
Operational Leadership:
• Provide strategic leadership and direction to the operational functions of the company.
• Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective processes.

Team Management:
• Lead and manage a high-performance senior management team, providing supervision, guidance, support, and mentorship.
• Foster a positive and collaborative working environment.

Strategic Planning:
• Collaborate with the CEO and senior management team members to develop and execute the company's strategic plan.
• Align operational strategies with the overall business objectives. Financial Management:
• Work closely with the Finance and Operations Manager to manage and optimize financial resources.
• Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and profitability

Process Improvement:
• Identify areas for operational improvement and implement strategies toenhance efficiency and productivity.
• Streamline workflows and implement best practices.

Risk Management:
• Assess operational risks and develop strategies to mitigate potentialchallenges.
• Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.

Fundraising:
• Work closely with the Development Director to support fundraising and resource mobilization

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Foster collaboration between different departments to ensureseamless communication and coordination.
• Work closely with other executives to drive cross-functional initiatives
• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and evaluatethe success of operational initiatives.
• Regularly analyze performance data and make data-driven decisions

Education and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in business, management, or a related field
• MBA is preferred
• Proven track record of successful executive leadership, preferably as a COO or in a similar role.
• Extensive experience in operations management.
• Interest and passion in conservation and One Health (addressing human, animal and environmental health together)
• Degree in conservation, natural resource management, or One Health is an advantage.
• Ability to think strategically and contribute to the development of the company's overall strategy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Familiarity with the industry in which the company operates.
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and drive positive change within the organization.
