JOB DETAILS:
Job description
Using a participatory multi-stakeholder approach, the GIZ Civil Peace Service works on transformation of conflicts overland and natural resources in Acholi, Karamoja and Teso. This process was developed in 2014 together with over 150 partners representing civil society organisations, government, business, the informal sector as well as cultural and spiritual leaders organized through networks of Interest Groups (IGs). To date, the GIZ Civil Peace Service supports and coordinates 12 Interest Groups with over 200 key stakeholders and member organisations from Acholi, Karamoja and Teso and one national partner organisation based in Kampala. Together, we work on transforming conflicts over natural resources caused by insecurity, large-scale investments and protected areas, as well as supporting governance of customary land including women’s land rights. We do this by providing safe spaces to expand on peace-building methods of non-violent conflict transformation such as mediation and dialogue. Providing access to information on land management and protection of land rights is central to this process.

Your tasks
• Develop and implement a media and communication strategy for the new program phase 2023-2025, which supports peace-building media efforts of GIZ CPS team and Interest Groups
• Coordinate the public relations work of the program within Uganda and in Germany and ensure compliance with GIZ media policies and standards
• Support GIZ CPS’ team and Interest Groups with creative media approaches to conflict transformation including program-wide campaigns, radio dramas and talk shows, audio documentaries, songs, information materials, video, photo and graphic design needs
• Needs assessment and capacity building GIZ CPS team and partners related to media work and the media strategy through media trainings on writing, photography, video and social media
• Develop Information, Education and Communication materials on peace-building methods relevant and applicable to the context
• Document GIZ CPS activities and change stories and ensure high quality reporting and visibility of CPS program activities on GIZ and CPS global platforms
• Write contributions to the CPS Global newsletter, social media and internal GIZ communication platforms
• Capacity building of local and regional journalists conflict sensitivity, conflict transformation and land conflicts

Your profile
• University degree in communication, media, journalism
• Knowledge and experience in conflict-sensitive journalism/Peace journalism
• Expertise and experience with online media and digital communication tools as well as international working experience in conflict transformation and peacebuilding
• Profound expertise in consultancy and advisory as well as experience in the support of Multi-Stakeholder networks and interest groups
• Experience in the development of knowledge management structures
• Good training and moderation skills, experience in the use of participatory methods
• Knowledge and experience in the field of land rights in Africa, background in adult education, work experience in rural areas and experience in radio journalism in particular community radio is a distinct advantage
• Fluency in English

Location information
• Place of residence: Moroto, Karamoja with frequent travels to Soroti, Gulu and Kampala
• Climate: Weather in Moroto is influenced by tropical wet & dry climate
• Healthcare: Basic services available, good services available in Kampala
• Shopping facilities: Good in Moroto, all specialized and imported products available in Kampala
• School situation: Location is not recommended for families with children of school age
