JOB DETAILS:
The Refugee-led Organization Network (RELON) is a dynamic and growing network of refugee- led community-based organizations in Uganda. RELON is currently implementing the Geared for Success Project in partnership with OXFAM Uganda, War Child Canada, Youth Social Advocacy Team (YSAT), and Community Empowerment for Creative Innovation (CECI). This project aims to provide technical and financial support to community-based organizations led by refugees and Internally Displaced People (IDPs), with a strong focus on advocacy activities to address gender- specific barriers and promote girls' education.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Officer to join our team in supporting the implementation of the Geared for Success Project. The Project Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of the project activities, with a specific focus on promoting equitable and inclusive learning outcomes for refugee, IDP, and host communities. The project aims to address the barriers preventing adolescent girls and young women aged 15-29 from accessing quality education and making decisions for their own lives in Uganda. He/she will play a vital role in driving advocacy efforts to address harmful norms, practices, and stereotypes that hinder girls' access to education and decision-making in Uganda.

Responsibilities:
• Lead and coordinate all advocacy activities under the Geared for Success Project, ensuring their alignment with project goals and objectives.
• Collaborate closely with partner organizations (OXFAM Uganda, War Child Canada, YSAT, and CECI) to develop and implement effective advocacy strategies and campaigns.
• Engage with local communities, government officials, and local leaders to raise awareness about the importance of girls' education and the need to address gender-specific barriers. Facilitate capacity-building workshops and training sessions for community-based organizations and relevant stakeholders on advocacy techniques and gender-responsive approaches.
• Develop and disseminate advocacy materials, including policy briefs, position papers, and awareness-raising materials, to promote girls' education and gender equality.
• Represent RELON in relevant meetings, conferences, and other events to advocate for girls' education and address gender disparities.
• Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to collect data, monitor impact, and measure the effectiveness of advocacy efforts.
• Support the day-to-day implementation of the Geared for Success Project, ensuring activities are carried out according to the project plan and timeline.
• Support the development and implementation of gender-responsive education programming, monitoring and evaluating its impact on target beneficiaries.
• Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to collect and analyze project data, contributing to regular progress reports and identifying areas for improvement.
• Assist in the development of project materials, including training manuals, guidelines, and educational resources.
• Contribute to advocacy efforts aimed at fostering an enabling environment for girls' education and empowering refugee and IDP communities.
• Foster strong partnerships and collaborations with relevant stakeholders, ensuring effective coordination and resource mobilization.
• Provide technical support and guidance to community-based organizations, promoting their active involvement in advocacy initiatives.
• Contribute to the drafting of project reports, highlighting advocacy achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in international development, social sciences, gender studies, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in advocacy and gender equality programming, preferably in the education sector or with refugee and IDP communities.
• Strong understanding of gender-specific barriers and the importance of addressing them to promote girls' education and gender equality.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing advocacy campaigns, including policy and awareness-raising initiatives.
• Excellent knowledge of advocacy techniques, tools, and approaches, with a track record of successful advocacy outcomes.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and community-based organizations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and mobilize stakeholders at various levels.
• Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advocacy- related software.
