JOB DETAILS:
Overview:
• URC is seeking an experienced Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist for Acholi (Gulu), Bugisu (Mbale), Busoga (Jinja) and Karamoja (Moroto) for the USAID Uganda Health Activity (UHA), a five-year program. The purpose of UHA is to support the Government of Uganda’s (GOU’s) efforts to increase the survival and well-being of vulnerable populations and improve overall health system resilience in seven priority regions. The program will strengthen the quality and availability of MNCH, FP/RH, nutrition, and facility-level WASH services as well as health systems at the regional-, district-, facility-, and community-levels.

Responsibilities:
• The Communication and Knowledge Management Specialist focuses on knowledge management, learning, and documentation for the project. S/he will be responsible for communication and documentation for the project, with the overall aim of conveying accurate and timely information about the work to various audiences, including USAID, the Ministry of Health, district teams, health unit management and staff, health care services beneficiaries, and the general public.

Specific responsibilities include the following:
• Identify, document, and disseminate project activities and achievements. Promote project successes and lessons learned utilizing a variety of communication channels.
• Work with project research and M&E and Learning teams, technical teams and partners, Government (Ministry of Health and district Local Governments), communities and project beneficiaries to identify and document and disseminate best practices, success stories, and lessons learned.
• Provide technical writing and editorial support to major project deliverables.
• Provide desktop publication support for project deliverables and dissemination products.
• Lead documentation of project success stories and communication activities for quarterly and annual program reports, assuring results-oriented, reader-friendly reports.
• Assure timeliness and high quality of all project knowledge products, deliverables, and achievements.
• Write, edit, and at times, oversee the design of project materials, including success stories, monthly update articles, and blog posts.
• Identify topics for documentation, collect information through interviews and on-the-ground research and observe, and determine appropriate mediums for documentation and dissemination.
• Ensure the project print and online materials are consistent with donor branding guidelines
• Collaborate with the UHA Learning and Knowledge management team within the UHA project regions and at the URC Headquarters team to regularly develop and share content on the URC website and social media platforms: develop and review the content, assist in the identification relevant topic areas, and collect and disseminate best practices.
• Monitor relevant media coverage, take photos, and video, and maintain a photo and video library and supporting photo/video release documentation.
• Provide support to the project Regional Director when needed, including preparation of project briefs for supported hospitals, MOH, Partners and together with the other project staff present project work at high-level meetings and conferences.

Qualifications:
Required Experience and Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Communication or related field. A master’s degree in Public Health or another relevant field is an added bonus.
• Minimum 5 years of work experience, at least 2 years of experience in knowledge management activities for international development projects; preferably in the health sector; experience with USAID-funded projects is an advantage.
• Demonstrate experience in knowledge management, including the ability to identify and document project activities and achievements, best practices, success stories, and lessons learned.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate information to stakeholders at all levels using a variety of communications approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to work with teams to produce written products and media, adhering to deadlines, and short turn-around times.
• Excellent writing and editing skills required.
• Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Desired Experience and Qualifications
• Previous experience working with URC and USAID is an added advantage.
