JOB DETAILS:
Established in 1961, Uganda Cooperative Alliance (UCA) is the Apex/Umbrella body of all registered cooperative societies in Uganda. the law mandates UCA to consider and make recommendations to the Government on matters of policy relating to the cooperative movement, make representations to the Government as it may think fit in relation to any matter affecting registered cooperative societies in general or in particular and to settle disputes in Cooperative societies. UCA is also mandated to carry out capacity building and resource mobilization for cooperative growth and development through her established structures across the country. It is on this background therefore, that UCA is seeking to recruit a highly qualified, competent, self-motivated, dynamic and highly innovative and creative communication and marketing officer to join the winning team to drive the communication agenda of UCA and the cooperative fraternity in the country.

Job Summary:
The purpose of this position to provide support to the communication function for Uganda Cooperative Alliance. This will include enforcing branding and marketing guidelines, managing social media platforms, development, and production of communication materials like photography, videography and managing Uganda Cooperative Alliance events. Additionally, incumbent will be expected to work with the project team to identify, research and develop high quality success stories which will be used by donors, Uganda Cooperative Alliance and project staff to produce a quarterly e-Newsletter amongst other communication materials.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Publications and Communication Materials.
• Develop and disseminate quarterly UCA newsletter for staff, beneficiaries, key stakeholders and don other publications for internal and external audiences to promote the cooperative movement agenda.
• The Communications and Marketing officer will be responsible for drafting content: setting up interviews with other UCA team staff members, partners, clients and beneficiaries, traveling into the field on a regular basis, developing interview questions, interviewing clients to collect stories, drafting stories using quotes/audio/notes taken and submitting finalized work, with photos.
• Implement, ensure proper application and achievement of the UCA overall communication strategy
• Provide strategic leadership in the communications and marketing department serving as communication and marketing officer.
• Establish and operationalize the UCA communications strategy by ensuring that the appropriate management structures and policies are continuously developed, reviewed and implemented
• Prepare and submit regular and periodic department performance reports to Management for strategic direction and qualitative assessment on the achievement of the planned activities and goals
• Ensure that operating procedures and controls are established and communicated to solidify Management controls and UCA direction
• Develop a media strategy and engage different media houses and platforms to create UCA visibility and brand.
Branding and Marketing
• Take lead to ensure that all UCA equipment, offices and vehicles are correctly branded and marked in line with UCA branding materials.
PR and Media Relations
• Support the GS to develop and implement an effective PR strategy, an annual PR plan which will be updated and monitored monthly.
• Work with the team to ensure proper implementation of the Uganda Cooperative Alliance Communication Strategy.
• Development and implementation of PR campaigns to improve coverage of Uganda Cooperative Alliance’s work, success stories etc.… Including working with the GS to the organize media launches, media briefs, photo calls and press conferences.
• Writing editorials when needed to support Uganda Cooperative Alliance and her events/ programs- targeting sector specific press relative to the theme of the event.
• Establish and manage highly collaborative relationships with key policy makers, regulators, Cooperators, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, partners and the general public.

• Analyzes the organization’s objectives, promotional policies, and needs to build public relations strategies that influence public opinion and promote UCA ervices, ideas, and services.
• Seek opportunities for stronger partnerships, sponsorships and promotion.
• Track media coverage and follow sector trends
• Drafts speeches and schedules interviews.
• Collaborates with office of General Secretary, Unit managers and Section heads to identify communication trends and evaluate them to determine whether it is in sync with organization’s public relation efforts.

Person specifications
• Must be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, etc. from a recognized university/institution or any related field.
• Master’s degree in related field will be an added advantage
• Post Graduate course in Mass Communication, marketing, Cooperatives, project planning and management and or in Human resource management is an added advantage
• Member of a professional body will be an added advantage
• Have knowledge and relevant work experience of not less than five (5) years working experience in a senior management position in a reputable organization.
Minimally Required Job-Specific Competencies
• Excellent writing skills (in English) are imperative to this position.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (English fluency required).
• Applicants with photography and/or videography skills preferred. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite software is also a plus.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Experience with popular social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, Tiktok etc.).
• Proven ability to quickly grasp UCA Business and make sound decisions
• Proven organizational and stakeholder management skills is a key requirement for this position
• Be a highly networked person with ability to build and maintain relationships beneficial to UCA and the cooperative movement.
• Have thorough understanding of cooperatives business.
• Should have a strong cooperative development focus with proven track record of business turn around.
• Proven track record of achieving results in related activities.
Requirements/ Skills:
• Comprehensive understanding of PR developments involving public and private sectors.
• Comprehensive understanding of projects: proposal writing and management
• An understanding of the activities in the cooperative sector, public and private sector.
• Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• Well-developed computer skills, including proven ability to maintain/update websites, and other social platforms
• Understanding of the internet, social media, multi-media tools and desktop publishing.
• Reporting skills and deadline-driven
• Attention to detail and social media practicality
