JOB DETAILS:
Responsibilities
• Design communication materials for Practice Areas (education, health, livelihoods), using information and evidence from project teams and the knowledge, evaluation and learning team.
• Lead in documentation of knowledge and evidence gathered from our programme portfolio and translate this into high quality evidence-based case studies and presentations for a wide range of audiences, including institutional donors and inter-governmental agencies.
• Work with the Practice Area Leads to develop and deliver communication intervention strategies and plans.
• Develop, edit and publish the contents of strategic information materials for advocacy and positioning, including information packages, briefs, research reports for stakeholders’ sensitization activities and other public engagements.
• Develop success stories to demonstrate the outcomes and impact of the campaigning and advocacy work.
• Monitor the evolving communication gaps and support in adjustment of communication tools to suit interventions
• Ensure that all communication and documentation. activities and materials are consistent with VSO global communications guidance and safeguarding policy.

Collaboration responsibilities
• With the Practice Areas’ Communities of Practice to translate information into learning materials.
• With the Learning Manager - Global Programmes to develop a strategy how materials can best be used for learning.
• With Knowledge and Learning Co-ordinator to ensure that appropriate and up to date material are used internally and externally.
• With the Content Communications officer in the Public Fundraising team to work together sharing content and materials.
• With the Digital and Media teams around the distribution of the content.
• With the Global Recruitment Network on recruitment content.
• With the Business Pursuit teams on the production of case studies, capability statements, ad-hoc project reports and communications with donors.

Skills, knowledge and experience
• Formal qualification in Communication or Media Studies, or equivalent in experience.
• Significant experience in preparing communication materials for various audiences including International Non-Governmental organisations, Donors, conferences etc.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to adapt style and content to suit audience.
• Ability to break down and present complex programme information into accessible, jargon-free English, with responsibility for developing and articulating organisational policy and practice standards on research and quality of evidence.
• High level of technical expertise in using social media and a range of communication channels to influence change.
• Knowledge and experience of editing & publishing
• Project Management skills.
• Good interpersonal skills, able to build relationships and influence across the organisation. Experience of cross-cultural working and an understanding of issues of diversity and inclusion.
• Effective team-working skills, seeking pro-actively to support the work of others, and building strong relationships with colleagues within and outside the immediate team. Experience of working remotely as part of a global dispersed team.
• Strong commitment to VSO’s values; and a willingness to learn through continual professional development.
