TERMS OF REFERENCE
TRAINING OF TRAINEES IN QUEEN BEE REARING
Background and Context
Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is implementing a United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) funded project titled “USAID/Uganda Combating Wildlife Crime Activity.” In this activity, WCS aims is to provide mitigation against Human Wildlife Conflicts such as crop raiding, which often leads to retaliatory wildlife killings by communities.
WCS through Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) are supporting communities around Karuma Wildlife Reserve (KWR) with apiaries, along the wildlife reserve boundary to mitigate against human wildlife conflicts and provide alternative livelihood enterprise. The consultant will enhance the capability of the selected beekeepers in queen bee rearing techniques, to increase the colonization rates and production at their respective sites, in Kiryandongo District.

Number of Activity Participants
Seven (7) activity participants from communities near KWR, Kiryandongo District will be trained.

Scope of work
The consultant/trainer will.
• Provide theoretical and practical skills in grafting techniques, stock improvement and breeding strategies that will contribute to healthy bee populations and sustainable bee keeping business.
• Organize the training venue and expose the beekeepers to queen bee rearing methods.
• Provide all equipment and kits for use during and after the training.
• Provide accommodation and lunch during the training.
• Award a certificate of completion to the trainees. (The designs and layout to be advised by WCS)

Duration
The consultant will be expected to deliver the assignment in seven (07) days.

Deliverables
• Consultancy report detailing the courses, level of competencies of the trainees and any recommendation.
• Provide 06 Queen bee rearing system kit needed for the training exercise.
• Certificates of completion to all activity participants.

Financial proposal
The consultant should submit a financial proposal, with a breakdown of all expenses including accommodation, transport, meals, training fees etc. One-page company profile, consultancies accomplished in the last three years, proposed site for training, a CV of the lead trainer and proof of consultant legal compliance to email: wcsuganda@wcs.org and copy to imujaasi@wcs.org. The deadline for submission is Monday 27-May-2024, 5pm. The email subject should be “CWC Activity Training of Trainees in Queen Bee Rearing.”
