1.1 Background
Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC), together with PATH and Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) as a consortium, are implementing a three-year project in Uganda, the Immunization “Learning Hub” with funding from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The project is implemented in close collaboration with the Uganda National Expanded Program on Immunisation at the Ministry of Health.
The Learning Hub (LH) aims to characterize zero-dose children (ZDC), under-immunized children (UIC), and missed communities, identify barriers to immunization, evaluate and share learnings on existing and planned immunization approaches, and improve measures and methods to access and use data regularly, as means of increasing equity in immunization. By design, the Learning Hub is embedded in the ecosystem of UNEPI, helping to provide key learnings to UNEPI and its partners regarding strategies to reach ZDC, UIC, and missed communities in Uganda.
1.2 Developing Learning Products and Knowledge Translation Platforms
Working closely with national and sub-national Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) stakeholders, the consortium will develop a variety of learning products tailored to Uganda’s immunization priorities. These products will facilitate knowledge translation and dissemination through established communication platforms, including conferences, webinars, meetings, and collaboratives.
The learning products will primarily be print-based and may include but are not limited to:
- Evidence briefs
- Fact sheets
- Policy documents
- Webinar posters
- Learning briefs
Each product will undergo rigorous review by technical experts, including Gavi representatives, to ensure high quality and effectiveness. Additionally, select learning products will be subjected to validation and pre-testing with target audience representatives to align with local standards and optimize impact.
1.3 Duration of the Consultancy
- Expected Start date: 15th June 2025
- Total working days: 10 days (spread throughout June subject to deliverables).
2.0 Knowledge Translation (KT) for Zero-Dose Immunization Research
Responsibilities:
The Consultant Graphic Designer will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with consortium partners to conceptualize and develop innovative, visually compelling learning materials for EPI stakeholders.
- Designing engaging, informative, and visually striking graphics that effectively communicate key messages about ZDC, UIC, and missed communities.
- Innovating new visual approaches to capture attention, enhance understanding, and encourage stakeholder engagement with immunization-related content.
- Ensuring consistency in branding and adherence to project guidelines across all learning products.
- Incorporating stakeholder feedback and making improvements to learning products as required.
3.0 Required Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications and competencies:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or a related creative field.
- Experience: Minimum of three years’ experience in graphic design, preferably in public health, or development sector projects.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of design principles, typography, color theory, and branding.
- Experience creating infographics, data visualizations, and print-ready materials.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Desirable: Certification in graphic design and prior experience working with health or non-profit organizations is an added advantage.
