JOB DETAILS:
World University Service of Canada (WUSC) is a Canadian non-profit organization with a mission to foster human development and global understanding through education and training. The Adolescent Girls’ Education in Crisis Initiative (AGENCI) project is being implemented in consortium by WUSC, Aga-Khan Foundation (AKF) and Windle International Uganda (WIU) with funding from Global Affairs Canada (GAC). The AGENCI project targets adolescent girls between the age of 14-18 years in Moyo and Obongi, Uganda. The AGENCI project focuses on the empowerment of adolescent girls through two key interventions: i) reducing social, cultural and economic barriers to accessing safe, secure, gender equitable and quality education by adolescent girls and ii) improving equitable learning outcomes for adolescent girls.

Scope of Work
Given the project context, and the extent of girl’s challenges and other barriers, AGENCI is providing marginalized girls with access to E-Mentorship opportunities with volunteers in Canada. E-Mentors will virtually meet with girls living in Moyo and Obongi, Uganda for 40 minutes a day/1-2 days a week, for a total of 7 weeks. In addition to providing mentorship and support, the E-Mentors will also share content on a variety of topics relevant to girls’ mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and more. The purpose of this assignment is to develop a combined resource booklet and one-day training program for E-Mentors, to help ensure that they are able to deliver high-quality, gender-sensitive, and positive mentorship experiences to girls in Moyo and Obongi.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Research best practices and innovative approaches to e-mentorship and virtual life skills programming;
• Based on this research and drawing from already existing open source content, develop a short manual which can serve as a Resource Toolkit for E-Mentors (no more than 25 pages). This should be undertaken in close coordination with AGENCI project team members. The Resource Toolkit should cover the following topics:
o A brief introduction to mentorship in the context of the AGENCI program;
o Ethics and principles of responsible mentorship;
o How to refer mentees to relevant services in their local context for additional support (the AGENCI team will provide support on this topic to ensure that it is grounded in the AGENCI safeguarding referral system);
o How to plan and organize mentorship sessions;
o Detailed examples of structured activities that E-Mentors can use to virtually engage girls (i.e. a “menu of options”) on core topics identified by the AGENCI team, including goal setting and growth mindsets; dealing with stress and trauma; making informed decisions and forming healthy relationships; sexual and reproductive health; menstrual hygiene management; and peacebuilding and empathy.
• Work with the AGENCI Monitoring and Evaluation Officer to develop short assessments (i.e. pre and post tests) to assess the effectiveness of the e-mentorship activity; and
• Using the Resource Toolkit for E-Mentors, deliver a one-day virtual training to E-Mentors to review the content and provide guidance and advice on successful mentorship.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as educational curriculum development or educational humanitarian programming;
• Expertise in the fields of education, curriculum development or life skills programming is required; Experience in designing and delivering training to mentors, facilitators, or teachers is required, and specific experience with girls’ mentorship programs is preferred;
• Solid understanding of the concepts and principles of child-friendly, child-centred and gender-responsive pedagogy is required;
• Experience in Uganda is strongly preferred;
• Knowledge of assessment approaches in relation to mentorship programs preferred; and
• Experience with international development and/or humanitarian assistance, and with issues that impact refugees and host communities preferred.
