JOB DETAILS:
General Summary
The counsellor will perform high level confidentiality counselling to patients of IDC without discrimination and refers patients for further counselling or other social support services as deemed necessary. He /She will provide a wide range of psychological services to support patients to achieve the goals of prevention, care and treatment with the aim of having an overall improved quality of life
Key Responsibilities
• Provides a full range of in-depth counselling and therapy interviews and utilises appropriate theoretical methods to interpret information
• Provide Psychological counselling such as personal counselling, group counselling and crisis counselling services to patients of IDC
• Identifies patient problems or challenges and documents pertinent information
• Identify, assess, develop and implement effective treatment plans
• Consult with others how to manage difficult or complex situation
• Respond and field inquiries from new and existing patients
• Facilitate conflict resolution sessions where applicable
• Support patients to seek professional help and keep appointments
• Develop and deliver presentations, information and training sessions to patients and staff
• Develop and deliver group counselling and psychotherapy materials
• Write case notes, client history and treatment plans while maintaining and safeguarding client confidentiality
• Plan and coordinate a variety of activities as assigned
• Review, assess and recommend changes to enhance the effectiveness of service delivery models
• Assists patients in identifying and formulating plans to solve emotional and interpersonal issues that may be affecting their general well-being and treatment outcomes.
• Participate in professional development activities and remain current with developments in the counselling field.
• Refers patients for further counselling to other social support institutions
Person Specification
• A degree in a counselling psychology or a related field
• Completion of a recognized short course in counselling services for persons living with HIV/AIDS
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent counselling skills
• Ability for team work
• Knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
