JOB DETAILS:
Stain, mount, and study cells to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities, and other pathological conditions following established standards and practices. Evaluate patients’ cell samples to notice subtle changes to accurately detect precancerous, malignant, and infectious conditions. Analyze fluid and tissue specimens for microscopic cellular abnormalities, such as bacterial and viral infections, cancer, meningitis, and other diseases. Collect, prepare, and interpret specimens for other types of fluid and tissue testing.
Key Responsibilities:
• Examine specimens using microscopes to evaluate specimen quality to detect abnormal hormone conditions and detect abnormalities in the color, shape, or size of cellular components and patterns.
• Prepare and analyze samples, such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear, body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs), to detect abnormal conditions.
• Provide patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports.
• Assist pathologists or other physicians to collect cell samples such as by fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies.
• Document specimens by verifying patients’ and specimens’ information.
• Maintain effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safety.
• Prepare cell samples by applying special staining techniques, such as PAS to differentiate cells or cell components.
• Submit slides with abnormal cell structures to pathologists for further examination.
• Maintenance of Cytopathology laboratory equipment such as microscopes, Centrifuges, microtomes etc.
• Attend continuing education programs that address laboratory issues.
• Identify, verify and maintain an appropriate stock of control blocks for use in IHC staining.
• Perform routine maintenance and quality control documentation for IHC staining equipment.
• Process cell samples using microtomy, wet tissue trimming and immunohistochemistry staining techniques.
• Perform QC slide screening and data entry
• Perform rapid onsite FNA evaluations.
• Thin prep processing and Surepath processing.
• Implement and assist with maintaining pathology LIS.
• Adhere to company safety and compliance regulations.
• Clean, maintain, and perform QC on instruments and equipment.
• Complete daily and monthly work load statistical data complying with management requirements
• Assist the supervisor in screening and interviewing of cytotechnology positions.
• Provide Cytotechnology expertise
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelors of Cyto-technology or BMLS (BBLT) with Certificate in Cytotechnology
• Three (3) years’ of experience in Cytotechnology.
