JOB DETAILS:
Pulse Lab Kampala would like to hire a Data Associate to support in data analytics and developing visualizations from different digital data sources (including Big Data). The key duties and responsibilities will include:

Duties and Responsibilities
• Data exploration, cleaning and quality: Assist in the data cleaning, process and exploration of new data sets, but create and maintain quality metadata of all existing data sets;
• Visualization: Support in the development of infographics and interactive dashboards to support exploration and later dissemination of insights from various sources of data;
• Data privacy compliance: Initiate and maintain risks, harms and benefits assessment and liaise with data engineers to ensure all recommendations are implements;
• Contribute to events, advocacy, and capacity building: Assist to produce materials for outreach, capacity building, stakeholder consultations and knowledge dissemination events;
• Other: Represent PLK in technical working group & stakeholder meetings including those organized by UN, government and other partners whenever called upon by Officer – Data Science in consultation with the Lab Manager;
• Any other task assigned by the Officer – Data Science.

• Data analysis: Ability to extract, analyze and visualize data (including Real-Time Data) to form meaningful insights and aid effective decision making.
• Data privacy and digital ethics: Knowledge of ethical usage of digital technology (e.g. AI, robotics, automation) and data. Ability to assess ethical implications when using, combining or sharing data, when building or implementing AI systems, and when advising on robotization and automation etc. Ability to design privacy protocols to ensure data is protected and used for legitimate purposes without unnecessary privacy risks.

• Data storytelling and communications: Skilled in building a narrative around a set of data and its accompanying visualizations to help convey the meaning of that data in a powerful and compelling fashion.

• Web production and development : Ability to design, code, develop and create a website or web page

Education:
• Secondary education with specialized certification. First level University Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field desirable, but is not a requirement.
• Experience:
• A minimum of 7 years of experience (for Secondary education) and 4 years’ experience for Bachelor degree holders;
• Experience in web technologies, tools and frameworks including CSS, SASS, HTML, JavaScript, web server, and GitHub;
• Working knowledge and experience in data cleaning, and analytics using python or R;
• Excellent data visualization skills using D3js, Datawrapper, Dash, Highcharts and Tableau;
• Experience in social analytics soft wares including Brandwatch and CrowdTrangle;
• Experience in creating infographics, user manuals, report designs using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator software will be an asset;
• Experience in representing an institution on a technical working group;
• Past UN experience is desirable.
