JOB DETAILS:
CSJ intends to engage Data Collectors to support the regular and ad hoc evaluation, research, and learning data gathering needs in order to support adaptive management. Data collectors will be hired on a call-down contract basis as needed
Purpose of the Role
The data collectors will assist CSJ in the collection of baseline, evaluation, and research data from survey respondents as well as other data-gathering duties as assigned. This includes working closely with CSJ programme staff to ensure a high-quality implementation and adherence to timelines and quality assurance. The role will require high level of attention to detail as well as working in different kinds of settings and locations, including field work in relatively remote areas of Northern Uganda, frequently working longer hours depending on the demands of the specific survey they are working on.
CSJ will take the responsibility to train and update the data collectors on every data collection assignment. All data collection activities will follow CSJ approved data collection forms, tools, methodologies, templates and discussion areas. Reporting to the Evaluation Research Learning (ERL) Manager, the data collectors will be supervised and guided by ERL specialists and technical field staff to achieve the set targets per given period.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensure that standard data collection quality assurance mechanisms instituted by Palladium are followed.
2. In conjunction with CSJ programme and partner staff, assist with data collection activities (for both quantitative & qualitative data asks) within selected or sampled sites in NU.
3. Accurately record data provided by respondents using mobile data collection applications OR any other appropriate tool as provided. And upload the data in the CSJ MIS. In cases where hard copies are used, submit fully filled tool to ERL designated personnel during the survey.
4. Provide concise and accurate feedback to CSJ staff when being debriefed on the quality and success of the interviews.
5. Proper use and custody of activity asset (phones / tablets, etc), ensure that these are safely maintained and returned to the supervisor at the end of the task assigned.
6. To ensure maximum confidentially of all information collected from farmers.
7. -Take pictures of story highlights or potential stories and submit to CSJ MD.
8. Spend and account for project resources received in line with expense guidelines and templates shared.
9. Submit a comprehensive technical report to reflect the situation on ground. This should be well supported with pictures as applicable, feedback from farmers on livelihood trends, weather patterns and its effects, markets, and market information.
10. Any other duties as assigned from time to time
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in any development related subject (e.g. social science, sociology, anthropology, development studies, public administration, development communication, political science, public policy etc)
2. More than two years of experience in quantitative or qualitative research in the Northern region and Refugee settlements in the region.
3. Knowledge of the agricultural market trends in Northern Uganda. This should include knowledge of the crops and animal circles.
4. Good understanding NU and the Refugee locations in the region.
5. Strong reading and writing skills in English. Fluency in one or more of the following languages is a MUST – Lugbara, Alur, Acholi, Lango, Madi, Arabic, kuku, Dinka or any of the local languages in Northern Region and Refugee settlements in selected locations.
6. Good experience in using smart phones/tablets for data collection and submission.
7. Strong experience in qualitative data transcription.

1. Good listening and communication skills; proactive and triangulating
2. Preferably resident in any district of NU region - Lango, Acholi, West Nile and Kiryandongo
3. Ability to work independently as well as in a multi-cultural team with minimum supervision.
4. Willingness to work flexible hours.
5. Willingness to travel with public means under unavoidable circumstances.
