Job Title: Diesel Mechanic

Job Purpose
Responsible for ensuring that the allocated fleet is available, and properly and cost effectively maintained in line with the group’s operational guidelines.

Educational Qualifications
• Minimum A-Level Certificate PLUS.
• Qualified as Diesel Mechanic.

• Experience Requirements
• Hands on experience in maintaining a trucking fleet, Automatic and manual transmissions vehicles.
• Experience with working on Renaults trucks and Plant would be an advantage.
• Drivers’ licenses from C1-DE

• Key Job Responsibilities
• Comply with operational and legal requirements with regard to Health and
• Safety.
• Responsible for fleet condition and availability
• Inspection of all vehicles before and after services
• Control all variable costs on a daily basis
• Ensure that customers are given a service level that they expect and that they are communicated with effectively
• Ensure that all breakdowns are attended to timeously
• Work closely with operations to ensure optimal availability and utilization of the fleet.
• Ensure that all fleet vehicles are serviced at correct intervals
• Ensure that all Safety Standards are maintained to ISO Standards and that staff are adequately trained in their respective fields
• Regularly monitor staff performance and ensure that they are recognized for good performance and corrected for poor performance
• Motivate staff and thereby ensure that they are performing effectively and productively
• Determine key performance areas – record and measure accordingly
• Assess and reduce accidents, injuries and non-compliance costs
• Co-ordinate and effectively control the use of all sub-contractors
• Hands on day-to-day maintenance of trailers and back ends
• Overall accountability for workshop equipment including lifting equipment.
• Ensure that housekeeping is maintained to an acceptable standard
• Ensure that all administration work is done accurately and in accordance with company policies
• Ensure compliance to designated IT system methodology
• Be prepared to perform emergency work sometimes outside normal work hours.
