JOB DETAILS:
The district facilitator will be responsible for coordination, planning and implementation of the CASCADE project by Farm Africa at the district level. Your role will involve facilitating technical trainings, linkages, and catalyzing relationships behavior change that leads to healthy diets in households. You will work closely with women farmer groups, MIYCAN groups, women farmers, local government agencies, community structures, community leaders, partners and project staff to deliver high-quality training programs and support the adoption of healthy diets in households

Reports to: Project Coordinator
DURATION & HOURS: Six months fixed-term contract, full-time, renewable

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the Project Officer will be:
Training and Capacity Building:
• Monitor and backstop the community-based facilitators (CBFs) who are training the women groups/farmers through the Farmer Field Business School (FFBS) approach.
• Support the establishment and maintenance of FFBS learning sites to demonstrate improved farming techniques and technologies.
• Organize field visits and farmer field days for farmers to observe successful farming models and learn from experienced practitioners.
• Conduct interactive training sessions for trained community-based facilitators (CBFs) and farmers on various topics, including Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), post-harvest handling, Social Action Analysis (SAA), Nutrition, MIYCAN, conflict mitigation and safeguarding.
• Work closely with district nutrition focal persons, VHTs to facilitate BCC campaigns through radio, IPC, dialogues, cooking demos, and use of MIYCAN tools targeting women and children U5.
• Facilitate dialogues between producer organizations (PDCs) and women farmer groups and link them with financing opportunities through government and non-government programs
• Collaborate with technical experts from NARO/NABUIN to train community group develop protocols for the certification of quality declared seeds (QDS), indigenous crop varieties, and other nutrient-dense crops
Stakeholder Engagement:
• Lead in organizing district level community meetings, awareness campaigns, and outreach activities.
• Collaborate closely with the relevant line departments in respective district local government, ensuring visibility, resource optimization, impact and sustainability.
• Coordinate the implementation of awareness campaigns through radio, interpersonal communication, and community dialogues targeting women and children
• Engage with the consortium partners, ensuring coordination, integration, layering and sequencing of activities
• Maintain regular contact with CBFs, farmers, provide updates on project activities, and address any concerns or queries.
Finance and Administrative Support:
• Assist in organizing and coordinating project meetings, inception workshop, other workshops, and trainings.
• Prepare agendas, take minutes, and maintain project documentation and records.
• Support with data entry, filing, and documentation management.
• Assist in budget tracking, expense monitoring, and financial reporting.
• Process project-related financial transactions, including payments, reimbursements, and procurement of goods and services.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
• Support the monitoring and evaluation of project activities in the respective district of operation.
• Assist in the development and implementation of monitoring tools, data collection activities including community feedback mechanisms, interviews, and focus group discussions. instruments, and evaluation frameworks.
• Contribute to the learning agenda, through documenting and disseminating best practices learnings to stakeholders, ensuring adaptive management; documenting, and disseminating reports, success stories, technical briefs to stakeholders.
• Contribute to regular progress reports and documentation.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential
• Degree/Diploma or equivalent in Agriculture, Nutrition, Livestock, Rural/Community Development, Pastoral Development, Agribusiness, Rural Livelihoods or other relevant field
• Knowledge and good understanding of pastoral production systems in Karamoja
• Fluency in the local languages spoken in Karamoja

Experience:
• At least 2 years community mobilization and engagement experience within pastoral production systems in Karamoja
• Experience of implementing climate smart agriculture, particularly food security and nutrition, interventions in Karamojong
• Experience in gender transformative approaches such as VSLAs, GALs, SAA, Engagement of men and boys etc
• Demonstrable Experience in facilitation of Adult Learners

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and communities based on trust and collaboration
• Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid riding licence
• Ability to communicate and share knowledge with a broad range of stakeholders with differing backgrounds and abilities.
• Energetic and assertive with a positive mindset
• Good community mobilizer with strong organizational skills

Desirable:
• Field level experience in community mobilization to participate in project activities, sensitization, designing and conducting trainings and promoting behaviour change for pastoralist communities
• Field level experience in delivering CSA, nutrition, and diversified livelihoods, through engagement with community structures
• Experience promoting culture of savings among pastoralists, and enhancing gender transformation.
• Experience of designing and conducting trainings using gender-sensitive techniques and methodologies
• Problem identification, analysis and solving of complex issues
