JOB DETAILS:

Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the Driver will be responsible for the following specific duties:
• Drive vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel and for the transport of general cargo goods.
• Make deliveries and collection of mail, documents, and other items, including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required and meet official(s), between the office and other offices and institutions, e.g., Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.
• Make minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested.
• Collect goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities. May make or collect payment for goods.
• Meet official personnel at the airport.
• Deal effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
• Take care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and vehicle tools; perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that vehicle is kept clean.
• Report any damage or loss of vehicle tools.
• Log fuel consumption, maintenance etc.
• Ensure that in case of accident, the steps required by rules and regulations are taken.
• Apply good judgment in the context of assignments given.
• Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
• Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures, if required.
• Deliver and collect mail and documents for various offices for distribution within the Regional Office ensuring that the documents are circulated correctly and at a timely interval.
• Provide administrative support on activities, such as, visas processing at the embassies and formalities with the immigration, ministries, and government authorities.
• Perform office errands and other messenger services through coordination with the administration staff and simple external contacts as assigned.
• Register correspondence to be sent by postal service, maintain records of names and addresses of recipients, calculate postal charge and arrange for the timely replenishment of the mailing charges.
• Deliver mail to the post office according to the weekly schedule, send urgent mail and collect mail as required.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned

Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education
• High school diploma or equivalent is required. Driver training with a valid driver’s license is required.

Job – Specific Qualification
• Passing the Global General Service Test (GGST) is a prerequisite, i.e. is required, for recruitment consideration in the General Services and related categories in the United Nations Secretariat. Applicants who have not passed the GGST at the time of application may be invited for the test after submitting an application.
• The GGST is a proctored entry-level examination at the duty station. Any travel expenses incurred in order to take the examination are the responsibility of the candidate and will not be reimbursed by the Organization.
• Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGST.

Work Experience
• A minimum of two years of experience as a Driver with a safe driving record is required.
• Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorized vehicles is desirable.
• Experience in administrative, general service and messenger services is desirable.

Languages
• English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
