JOB DETAILS:
What we are looking for
The Education Assistant (EA) provides ongoing, implementation, monitoring & evaluation and reporting in regard to the execution of the First Emergency Response – Education cannot Wait project activities which includes child protection and education components. Activities ensure children (and their care givers) in the refugee settlement regain access to safe living environments, access education and skills development opportunities and are protected from harmful abuse. The Education Assistant will closely work with the teachers, learners and the community members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
What you will do
Generic responsibilities
• Implement plan of action for delegated portfolio of Education project (activities, budget and project documentation)
• Conduct day to day follow up of progress in project planning, implementation and monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with NRC policies CC tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
• Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need and explore and asses new and better ways to assist them.
• Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
• Liaison and collaborate with relevant local government authorities, NGO partners and other stakeholders.
• Promote integrated programming among NRC core competencies.
Specific responsibilities
• Provision of Safe and Inclusive Infrastructure through awareness raising and sensitization of Education stakeholders
• Ensure that Safety and Learning Environment is Improved through strengthening of referral pathways and management of menstrual hygiene.
• Provision of continuous professional development and supplementary trainings for teachers and head teachers
• Provision of curriculum, teaching, play based and learning materials.
• Strengthening child participation and resilience through school clubs
• Strengthening of Community-level engagement to support sustainability and accountability.
• Provide on-site support supervision and feedback to teachers/Instructors on formal and non-formal Education programmes.
• Ensure community participation, contribution, and ownership in the formal and non-formal Education program.
• Carry home visits to formal and non-learners and take part in discussing issues that affect the child as a mentoring process.
• Liaise with community leaders to ensure that out of school children benefit from Education activities.
• Identify community concerns that hinder the enrolment of children in learners, retention and completion and recommend measures to address them.
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports on activities within each school with relevant data.
• Ensure a constructive co-operation with local authorities and host schools in implementing Education activities.
• Assist in identification and registration of AEP learners (database).
• Assist in updating AEP learners and teachers’ data base.
QUALIFICATIONS
What you will bring
Generic professional competencies:
• University degree in bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Bachelor of Arts, Education, Development Studies, Psychology, Child Development, Child Psychology, Community Psychology or any equivalent accrued working experience in a related position.
• Minimum 2 years of experience implementing, supervising, monitoring and evaluating field-based child protection or education projects with an NGO, particularly focusing on children’s rights, preferably in an emergency setting.
• Good understanding of child rights issues and child rights instruments.
• Specific familiarity with child rights issues in the NGO world of work.
• Ability to interact with communities, children and adults as well as other stakeholders at sub-county and district levels.
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
• Fluency in both spoken and written English.
• Ability to speak any local language commonly spoken by the beneficiaries.
• Knowledge of the local context and education systems in Uganda.
• Ability to work harmoniously with the refugees and host communities.
• At least 1 years’ experience in financial, planning and budget management.
• Effective interpersonal skills – oral and written communication skills
• Facilitation and presentation skills
• Strong monitoring, documentation and reporting skills
