JOB TITLE: Electrical Engineer
WORK CENTER: ISIMBA / KARUMA HYDRO POWER PLANT
SUPERVISOR: MAINTENANCE MANAGER
DEPARTMENT:OPERATIONS

Job Summary:
Description of the purpose of the job To ensure that the Electrical elements in the power plant run smoothly to generate power. He checks electrical machines and machine components, tests their efficiency and makes repairs wherever necessary and suggests improvement to machines for better performance. The Electrical engineer shall have a wide engineering knowledge base and keep abreast with the latest developments in the field to enable him/her to evaluate the condition of electrical machines, diagnosing problems and where possible propose improvements changes.

Key Responsibilities: Brief Description of duties or the responsibilities for the job
• Conferring with other engineers and personnel of the power plant to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions and provide technical information for improvement of maintenance.
• Researching and analysing design proposals, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost and maintainability and applicability of such proposals.
• Apply knowledge of engineering principals to design, evaluate and make changes to installations with a view to improving performance or providing a solution to a problem- engineering solutions.
• Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and come up with recommendations for maintenance crew.
• Oversee installations of Electrical plant and equipment, oversees all routine maintenance and repairs at the power plant and makes reports to the Maintenance Manager for the planning of long outages and overhauls.
• Training entry level maintenance staff
• Maintains supplies inventory by checking electrical material stock to determine inventory levels; anticipating needed supplies;
• Writing monthly system performance reports for allocated systems
• Compiling work packages/maintenance procedures for all allocated systems
• Serves as a key resource for safety related issues with the goal of meeting/exceeding OSHA requirements for a safe workplace.
• Any other duties assigned by supervisor.

Supervisor: Maintenance Manager

Education and Professional Requirements:
The Minimum education level required to perform this job. An upper second Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related field. Post graduate diplomas and certificates in other fields of engineering such as mechatronics; automation etc. is an added advantage.

Related Job Experience/Qualification:
The Experience required to perform this job. A minimum of 3 years working at a power plant, heavy manufacturing Industry, processing plant, a major repair workshop or similar work places are needed for this position

Additional Information
Activities Relating to the Organization as a Corporate body; Apart from the core activities listed above, the Electrical Maintenance Engineer Karuma/Isimba shall participate in activities of the organisation such as;
• Nomination to Contracts committee
• Carrying out Procurement Evaluations.
• Appointment to plant incident investigation committees
• Appointment to risk, safety, fire and first aid committees
• Appointment to outage leadership
• Preparation of daily Activity Plan for the Karuma/Isimba Electrical Maintenance staff.
• Where identified as capable of providing specific or specialised knowledge, he/she shall be called upon to provide such expert opinion/knowledge.
• Data entry, Data and information Management, analysis etc.
• He/she may be required to carry out assignments that are not specified in this job description for the benefit of the organization or if it is deemed such assignment would improve his/her output capabilities and personal development.
