Jobs Summary
The Executive Director will be responsible for the successful leadership, strategic planning and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Governance

  • Lead the planning and budgeting process ensuring FAWE Uganda has adequate financial and human resources and that prudent investments and expenditure of funds is upheld
  •  Lead the delivery of FAWEU's vision and manage the short, medium and long term plans
  •  Improve operations by strengthening, capacity, build high performance teams, identifying and promoting talent as well as managing performance
  • Create a conducive work environment that promotes women leadership, attracts, retains and motivates professional staff and encourages them to work as a team; ensure that an effective management team with appropriate provision for succession is in place
  • Be responsible for the recruitment, employment and release of all personnel at FAWE Uganda and ensure that sound human resource practices are in place
  • Ensure that the organization has policies and procedures that are in line with both best‘ practice and Ugandan legislation
  •  Ensure effective monitoring, evaluation and documentation of program achievements and impact of FAWEU’s work
  • Ensure that the Board functions effectively as per the constitutional provisions

Financial Performance and Viability

  • Serve as the Accounting Officer of the Organization
  •  Responsible for the fiscal integrity of FAWEU, ensures submission to the Board of the proposed annual budget for approval and preparation of monthly financial statements which are accurate and reflect the true financial status of FAWEU
  • Responsible for financial management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position
  • Develop innovative and effective resource mobilization strategies to facilitate program implementation and ensure sustainability and stability of FAWEU

External Representation and Managing Partnerships

  • Act as liaison between partners, donors, stakeholders and the organization Publicise the achievements of FAWEU, its programs and goals
  • Represent FAWEU at high level regional and international fora, donor, partner and collaborating agencies‘ functions and meetings, to advocate for girls‘ and women's education
  •  Build, nurture and manage strategic alliances and partnerships with the Ugandan Government, donors and other likeminded organizations and networks seeking to promote girls‘ and women’s education
  • Ensure that FAWEU’s good practices in the promotion of girls‘ education are documented and disseminated.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned to by the supervisor from time to time

KEY CDMPETENCIES
Qualifications

  • A Master's degree preferably in Education, Social Sciences, Gender, Social Work and Social Administration, Development Studies or other relevant field is essential
  • A Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Public Administration and Management, Human Resource Management or related field is desirable

Experience

  • At least fifteen years of overall professional experience with at least ten years in a senior management position with a local or international NGO,
  • Experience working on girls‘ education and development issues is an added advantage.
  •  Demonstrable experience in mobilizing resources ~ Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Proven strategic and implementation ability with strong conceptual and analytical skills for planning, monitoring, impact assessment and learning
  •  Effective communication (speaking, writing, listening) and advocacy skills to influence at the highest level and engage with diverse audiences to articulate the importance of girls’ education.
  • Demonstrated understanding oi concepts and application in organisational learning and knowledge management
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of gender and diversity issues and proven commitment to addressing inequalities in all key areas of responsibility
  •  Practical understanding current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization
  •  Practical understanding human resources management.
  •  Practical understanding financial management
