JOB DETAILS:

Summary
Reporting to the Director of Student Life, Family Mentor (FMs) couples are to create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and caring environment for the students entrusted to their care. This involves a daily effort to meet the emotional, personal, educational, and daily needs of the students for whom they are responsible in the context of modeling a healthy, growing, Christ-centered marriage. Couples must have been married a minimum of three years and have considerable experience working with teenagers to be considered for this role.
Foreign national (i.e. non-Ugandan) candidates are responsible for raising their own support during their time with Amazima Ministries.

Duties and Responsibilities
Personal

• To set an example of servant leadership, use biblical principles to resolve disputes, speaks to edify and encourage, and demonstrates faithful obedience to God
• To live out a biblically sound marriage reflecting Christ and His Church
• To leverage personal gifts and skills where applicable to disciple students and support the mission and vision of The Amazima School

Environment
• FMs will strive to reflect the heart of The Amazima School’s mission to shape Ugandan students to know and honor God and to desire to serve him with all their heart, mind, and soul
• FMs will endeavor to create a safe, nurturing, and caring environment where trust, discipline, consistency and accountability are evident
• FMs will enrich students’ lives by providing moral, spiritual, and educational guidance and counsel

Specific Tasks
Duties and responsibilities for Family Mentors include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
• Attending all Student Life (full) team, TAS all-staff meetings, and trainings with their spouse
• Participate in home visits and all service projects with their spouse and students
• Attend and participate in morning devotions and house team meetings with their spouse
• Attend dinner at the chapel with students all week nights that they are on duty
• Be generally available on scheduled weekends and immediately after school on scheduled days
• Lead daily family devotions with spouse and Ugandan partner
• Assign and supervise daily house/campus chores
• Supervise and assist with daily homework as needed
• Conduct regular family meetings
• Implement established Student Life discipline strategy
• Interface with teachers regarding academic issues
• Engage in structured group activities and fellowship with other Family Mentors

Families
• Develop quality relationships with the guardians of the students in the home
• Visit students’ homes and families, along with Ugandan Family Mentor Partner, twice a term

Qualifications
• Be married at least three years and have a marriage based on and reflective of biblical principles
• Foreign national (i.e. non-Ugandan) applicants for this position cannot have more than two children
• Must be a committed Christian who is in full agreement with the Statement of Faith of The Amazima School
• Professional and personal references must demonstrate observed manifestation of godly character and spiritual maturity
• Must be an active member of a local church
• Must be willing to commit to the mission of The Amazima School and willing to make a minimum three-year commitment to the family mentor role
• Must have experience working with and mentoring high school-age students
• Be in good health, enthusiastic, and have high energy
• Enjoy working collaboratively in a team environment
