JOB DETAILS:
A mine located in Manafwa District, Eastern Uganda seeks to engage the services of an experienced hands-on Diesel Mechanic to lead a garage team of mechanics, auto electrician, assistant mechanics/auto electrician, drivers, and machine operators. The job and person specifications are provided below
Job Functions
The incumbent will be required among other things to:
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections, diagnosis, and repair (including emergency field maintenance repairs) of mechanical/hydraulic/electrical defects on all gasoline, diesel, and electronically powered light and heavy vehicles, forklifts, ore and waste haulage trucks, dozer, wheel loader, excavators, 500Kva standby generator, and compressors per company policy.
• Designing and communicating workshop repairs work plan and assigning work to technicians in line with the communicated work plan.
• Ensuring workshop turnaround targets are met.
• Perform engine tune-ups, overhauls, and general repair maintenance of a variety of automotive mechanical equipment such as semi-skilled repairs and installation of new parts on drivetrains, steering, hydraulic, electrical, suspension, air compression, air or hydraulic brake systems, ignition, hydraulic pumps and controls and air conditioning systems.
• Perform specialized work on the above-mentioned equipment on an as-needed basis.
• Inspect, maintain, repair mount and balance vehicle tyres on an as-needed basis.
• Oversee and over inspect all routine and complex vehicle maintenance and service schedules.
• Effectively repair and maintain the company fleet of vehicles / trucks and equipment to support mining and production operations and reporting to the Engineering Superintendent.
• Identifying and solving mechanical problems (fault finding) and always maintaining high work standards.
• Maintain a safe work environment, housekeeping and safety on machines.
Performance and Work Requirements
• Operational knowledge of gasoline and diesel equipment and tools associated with their troubleshooting and repairs.
• Knowledge of, Toyota vans & pickups, Hyster and Heli forklifts, Sino haulage tipper trucks, SEM 655D wheel loader, Sany SY335 excavator, CAT 330CL excavator, CAT D6H dozer, 500Kva Teksan generator or similar equipment is desirable.
• Ability to accurately perform preventive maintenance to fleet vehicles and equipment, identify component failures, diagnose, and troubleshoot vehicle/equipment systems and produce quality repairs.
• Ability to document and analyse all vehicle equipment repair and inspection information.
• Ability to perform inventory and order parts and supplies as needed.
• Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, regular and timely attendance.
• Ability to conform to and maintain Namekara Mine safety standards and all other company or state rules and regulations.
• Ability to maintain a clean and safe working environment per company standards, adhere to SOPs and take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
• Ability to read and understand technical service manuals, repair orders, labels, and gauges.
• Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays as maybe required.
• Ability to promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in equipment and to work and communicate well with truck drivers, heavy equipment operators and other employees.
• Ability to plan workshop leave and off days and ensuring maximum efficiency.
• Accountability for the safe keeping of tools.
• Unrestricted ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, squat, lift, push, pull, climb, and lie on the back in a horizontal position for prolonged periods.
• Considerable knowledge of Windows operating systems (Word, Excel, Outlook etc) is desirable.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate would have the following attributes and qualifications;
• High school graduation or satisfactory equivalent supplemented by specialized training in the maintenance of gasoline and diesel vehicular equipment or trade test Diesel Mechanic qualification. The completion of a recognized apprenticeship or the possession of mechanical certifications from a professionally recognized institution is highly desirable.
• ± 5 years previous fleet experience as a qualified Diesel Mechanic.
• Previous experience working in a similar environment with similar equipment as above is preferred.
• Demonstrable knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Bilingual of which English is one language spoken and written.
• Person must be physically fit to perform physically demanding work.
