World Vision Uganda (WVU) is a Christian relief, development and advocacy non-government organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. We currently work in 43 districts and have 48 Area Programmes implementing projects in health & nutrition, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), livelihoods & resilience, education and child protection. World Vision (WV) is committed to the protection of children and adult beneficiaries from exploitation and abuse and will not employ people whose background is not suitable for working with these beneficiaries. Due to expansion in scope of our programmes, we are now seeking for a qualified and passionate individual willing to share in our vision and join the team in the following role.
Position: Gender and Protection Officer - KOICA Project
Report to: Project Manager
Location: Terego District
Advert Start Date: 22nd April 2022
Advert End Date: 29th April 2022

Purpose of the position:
The Protection & Gender Officer has a dual role of implementing the KOICA Project Protection and Gender interventions, as well as ensuring protection and gender mainstreaming across the project.

Key Outputs/Responsibilities
• Take the leading role in planning, implementing, monitoring and reporting all protection-related activities of the project, and provide technical support in line with the WV's policies and the project requirements.
• Facilitate the integration of social cohesion activities within the refugee settlements and host communities and support community-based protection systems, child groups and stake holders in advocating for various protection issues in the project location.
• Build the capacity of the various community structures and protection champions in the project area by organizing and conducting trainings, monthly meetings, and other means necessary with the members of community structures, faith leaders, protection champions, child groups, and other stakeholders deemed necessary for the success of the project on the aspects of community protection, psycho-social support, participation and community ownership.
• Provide regular updates, monitoring, and reporting of the protection activities to ensure that the project is meeting its targets.
• Develop tools to manage data and information collection, and analysis to ensure that the activities meet the targets while adhering to the quality standards
• Collect and compile statistical data and information regarding community structures, community members and children participating in the project activities.
• Develop periodic project reports and submit them to the relevant authorities
• Document impact and success stories evidenced with quality pictures to share milestone with staff, partners and donors
• Handle visitors including donors, support office and national office staff, stakeholders, in line with the child protection policy and protocols of WV. - Mobilize community meetings with children and key stakeholders at all implementation levels
• Prepare and submit all payment requisitions for activities conducted in line with the organizational policies.
• Prepare concepts notes, project activity budgets, expenditure, preparation of activity financial and narrative reports as per the guidelines and submit them within the agreed timeframes.
• Preparation of payment advance and purchase requests for appropriate project transactions in line with approved M&E documents.
• Any other actions deemed necessary for the position to perform in order to meet the project's objectives and contribute to its success.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience.
• The holder of this position should have a university degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Human Rights or any other relevant field.
• This position requires at least 5 years of experience working in child protection and gender development programming, preferably in fragile contexts.
• Additional Certificate courses in IASC Guidelines and key training packages preferred (Caring for [Child] Survivors of Sexual Violence, psychological First Aid in Emergencies, CPiE Minimum Standards, and GBV IMS, International Humanitarian & Human Rights Law Foundations, etc), is an added advantage
• Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work (e.g. CP Minimum Standards, Red Cross and Red Crescent Code of Conduct, SPHERE, and the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) Standard, etc.)
• Networking and collaboration skills
• Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and negotiate, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
• Willingness to participate in chapel and group devotions; and Commitment to WV Core Values and Mission Statement.
• Experience having work in a similar context is desirable
• Fluency in English both spoken and written and knowledge of one of the local language spoken in the area is an added advantage.
• Good understanding of monitoring and evaluation processes
• Ability to communicate and work with beneficiary communities, government and stakeholders at the district level
• Experience in training and community consultation is highly desired
