Greening Finance Initiatives in East Africa tenders at WWF Norway
Context and Purpose
Do you believe in the power of African capital to harness climate and nature-based solutions? Do you
want to work with a leading global environmental organisation to realise this opportunity in
partnership with banks, investors and the wider ecosystem?
WWF Norway is looking for a dynamic and seasoned profile with strong experience, networks and
track record in working with the East African banking and investment sectors to drive results across a
diverse and mature thematic programme grant portfolio in 2025, design and develop a new long-termportfolio of work with this critical sector for WWF.
Key Activities
Working closely with exceptional teams in East African WWF offices in Kenya, Madagascar, Tanzania
and Uganda, and globally including the WWF global finance practice and WWF Norway, to:
1. Design and lead activities related to development of renewable energy credit portfolios in
support of selected financial institutions (primarily microfinance and commercial banks);
2. Lead activities related to SME investment readiness for renewable energy and green finance
3. Support relationships, engagement and delivery with key regional financial institutions on
climate risk, sustainable infrastructure and ‘blue economy’;
4. Support the designing and development of WWFs new programs and activities beyond 2025,
on the topics of greening finance and financing renewable energy in the region.
Skills and Competences of the Consultant
Extensive networks and experience in the finance and investment sector in East Africa, including the
commercial banking and microfinance sector, including in designing and implementation of innovative
credit products.
Proven experience in renewable energy finance and/or green finance.
Experience in delivering trainings, technical assistance and change initiatives at scale for financial
institutions and businesses, either/both as consultant and/or internal leadership.
A self-starting, entrepreneurial mindset, values-driven and collaborative leader.
Terms
The consultant will be engaged between 1st April and 31st December, up to a maximum of 20 days per
month. Precise workday schedule to be agreed during the contracting process.
The successful proposal will be an individual engaged on a consultancy agreement with WWF Uganda
and located in East Africa for the duration of the assignment. Kenya is preferred, but Uganda and
Tanzania can also be considered.
The consultant will liaise closely with WWF offices in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, the WWF
International Finance Practice and Norway. The consultancy will require travel within East Africa,
which will be pre-approved and on cost recovery basis/ according to WWFs internal policy.
Payment monthly in arrears by invoice pending approved time sheets and satisfactory fulfilment of
pre-agreed deliverables.

The window for proposals is open until 14th March at midday East Africa Time, with evaluation of
proposals happening continuously.
