JOB DETAILS:
Our Client, a Tier 1 commercial bank in Uganda with a presence in Africa, is implementing an ambitious transformation program to enhance its Customer and Employee value proposition through digitalization. The bank seeks to recruit high performing, transformational and experienced leaders to join their Senior Leadership team.

Head, Risk Management
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Risk will be responsible for developing, enhancing and implementing enterprise risk management strategies for the bank, and integrating strategic risk management systems throughout the bank to facilitate the identification, measurement, monitoring and control of market, operational and credit risks that enhance operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
• Establish and disseminate comprehensive Risk Management Programmes for the bank.
• Lead the budget preparation and monitoring process for the Risk department.
• Assess market risk factors (equity, interest rate, currency, and commodity) and develop strategies to address them.
• Assess and recommend mitigating measures for reputational and regulatory risks.
• Assess and implement effective operational risk management in branches and departments.
• Establish adequate safeguards to protect against Operational Risks including internal fraud, external fraud, and market manipulation, execution failures through data entry, business disruptions, failed mandatory reporting, and negligence.
• Review the quality of reporting on critical functional areas - Credit, Treasury, Operations, and ICT-regulatory reports and external audit reports.
• Ascertain the risks through the regulatory reports, external and internal audit, inspection reports and close the risk areas identified.
• Review and implement the Bank's Credit Policy and Procedures and oversee the implementation of the systems and controls throughout the bank to ensure compliance with Financial Regulations.
• Facilitate the development of the bank's data base in collaboration with the regional teams and Credit Reference Bureaus to enrich the bank's credit profile.
• Facilitate the continuous development and enhancement of the bank's credit profile by leading the research, market intelligence and industry trend analysis.
• Monitor credit risk to ascertain the overall health of the asset portfolio and exposures in line with the bank's policy guidelines.
• Coordinate audits and respond to issues and recommendations raised to the Risk department.
• Provide leadership, coaching and staff development to the Risk department.

Knowledge & Experience
• A Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Statistics, or related field.
• A Master's degree in Business Administration or related degree.
• A Risk management or Accountancy professional qualification such as Financial Risk Management (FRM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or related field.
• Membership to a relevant recognized professional body.
• A minimum of 10 years of managing a Risk function in a Commercial Bank, of which 5 should be in senior management position, leading a Risk Department in a Bank. Demonstrable experience leading a Risk department in an international or regional bank is an added advantage.
• Demonstrable business analysis, leadership, and communication skills.
