BasicNeeds UK in Uganda (BNUU) is a non-profit organization committed to supporting access to quality Mental Health Services in Uganda through in-service training of health workers, research, advocacy and raising awareness about mental health issues in communities.
BNUU in partnership with Network for Africa has secured funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to support stabilized persons with mental disorder and epilepsy and their caregivers with livelihood inputs. The project aims at reducing poverty and increasing resilience for Persons with Mental Disorder and Epilepsy (PMDEs) and their caregivers in Agago District. BNUU, therefore, seeks to recruit a competent and qualified candidate to fill in the positions of Head of Livelihoods and Mental Health Counsellors.

Duties and responsibilities
The Head of Livelihoods is responsible for overseeing the implementation of livelihood project, supervising Livelihoods Officer, and providing technical support to the project. The main duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to;
• Supervise and build professional competencies of the livelihoods team to ensure effective delivery of the livelihoods project
• Responsible for reporting on all livelihoods activities.
• Assess markets, value chains and identify business opportunities in the local context
• To help Self-Help Group (SHG) members choose the best enterprise/income-generating activities based on each PMDE’s capability and the demand in the area,
• Provide support to Persons with Mental Disorder and Epilepsy (PMDEs) to diversify their business as their income and savings grow.
• Conduct training of SHGs in running a small business, including basic bookkeeping, customer service and marketing of their goods/services, leadership and provide training in specific Income Generating Activities (IGAs) chosen by the SHG members
• Train SHG members on financial literacy
• Liaise with local government district and sub-county production department to ensure that SHG members have access to government and other non-governmental organization livelihoods programmes.
• Provide ongoing advice/support to SHG members to develop work plans and budgets for their IGAs
• Provide in-kind start-up grants to SHG members
• Conduct regular field visits to monitor the performance of income-generating activities of SHG members.
• Deliver training to SHG members on village savings and loaning scheme
• Support monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning activities (MEAL) including base-line, end-line and technical assessments and research
• Train SHG members on how to start and run drug banks
• Support in programme design and proposal discussion
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, international development, or a related field preferred.
• Active knowledge of English and Acholi languages (verbally and written)
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience and expertise in supporting Nano-business run by vulnerable groups of people. Work experience with persons with disabilities is desirable.
