Job Purpose
In collaboration with the Senior Management team, he/she takes lead in the formulation of long- range strategic plans and objectives to develop growth strategies that support continued improvement of the bank’s overall performance.
The responsibility of the Head of Strategy and Business Analysis are inclusive of competitor benchmarking, industry intelligence and research, consumer knowledge, and development of strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities /Key Deliverables
Strategy Definition:
• Identify strategic vantage points and opportunities that could influence business growth and profitability and take lead in formulating high priority strategic objectives and initiatives while collaborating directly with the bank’s leadership, executives, and stakeholders.
• Develop the structure and take lead in preparation of the bank’s long term strategic plans and strategic initiatives. This includes the development, monitoring of implementation and review of annual corporate work plans, gathering, and generating relevant data, driving analyses, and the development of actionable recommendations.
• Identify and develop strategic opportunities for the bank with a view of diversifying the customer base and gaining an additional share of the market.
• Review feasibility of new markets as well as their potential growth opportunities and provide short and long-term strategic recommendations meant to develop and capitalize business opportunities to the bank’s executives.
• Establish KPIs that the bank will measure performance against and determine the effectiveness of the implemented strategies through ensuring that budget targets are consistent with those established in the strategic planning process, financial plans and budgets incorporate resources for strategic initiatives, monitoring the implementation of strategic initiatives to identify areas for strategic improvement and eliminating those not delivering strategic benefits.
• Evaluate overall performance against strategic performance targets and make necessary adjustments as may be required as well as report periodically to Management and Board on strategic initiative status, performance on the measures agreed upon and progress on the Bank’s Strategy.
• Drive awareness and insightful analyses of the market and transaction trends as well as identify and recommend any adjacencies to the business to ascertain risks and opportunities.
• Develop the bank’s annual business plan and define the corporate performance target and performance measures to be attained on a monthly/quarterly/annually. He/she will evaluate and recommend business portfolio frameworks, strategies, financial concepts, practices, programs, processes, and measures to be applied across the business.
• Engage and support the business in numerous fronts in defining and refining business strategies with a specific focus on new strategic approaches, ideas, and processes that will grow the business and avail measurable results.
• Coordinate with the Bank’s corporate communications team to develop Strategy-related materials, including presentations, print media, and electronic media, customized training classes, and specialized programs such as monthly strategy awareness forums for managers and their superiors, and other stakeholders.
• Prepare regular reports and deliver presentations on the strategy and strategy execution performance of the bank to EXCO, HOD’s and other relevant stakeholders.
Market Insights & Business and Data Analysis:
• Analyze and recommend potential business models to realize profitability opportunities and to avail insightful qualitative analyses.
• Develop and implement strategic and analytical tools and processes.
• Develop analytical models and perform regular financial, competitive, performance, and market analyses for the bank to comprehensively value business opportunities and ensure well-founded strategies are presented to the relevant leadership.
• Prepare regular analysis reports for EXCO and the Board, and relevant stakeholders to facilitate decision making.
• Define the corporate research strategy and roadmap in alignment with business goals, objectives, and priorities.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure that research findings are integrated into decision-making at all levels of the organization.
• Manage relationships with external research vendors, ensuring that research assignments are delivered on time and within budget.
• Analyze data and communicate insights in a clear and concise manner to stakeholders.
• Present research findings to senior leadership, influencing decisions that impact the direction of the business.
• Stay up-to-date on latest industry trends and methodologies, and share knowledge with the team on an ongoing basis.
• Foster a culture of innovation and creativity in the bank
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and lead initiatives to drive strategic change

Person Specification
Education & Training
• A Business degree in finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, management or any relevant field.
• Possession of a Certified banking qualification or master's degree in a relevant field would be an added advantage.
• Relevant Practical training in Strategy & Planning
• Skills and training in use of analytical and data modelling tools
• Must have at least 5 years of working experience in a strategy management position, preferably working in a fast paced and dynamic business environment. The candidate will also have had previous experience developing and monitoring implementation of corporate strategy.
Skills & Experience
• A good understanding of the Banking and Finance environment.
• Working experience in banking and Finance functions at a senior management level.
• Excellent appreciation of global economic and industry trends.
• A good understanding of stakeholder objectives and interests.
• A working knowledge of financial modelling and projections / forecasting.
• A working knowledge of financial and non-financial reporting and accounting.
• A good working knowledge and understanding of banking laws and regulations.
• A thorough knowledge of banking business processes as well as risk management
