Nile Vocational Institute (NVI) is a Christian Private Vocational Institute established by the African Evangelistic Enterprise (AEE), a Ugandan NGO in partnership with a Germany child Care organisation Kindernothilfe (KNH) helping a child in in need in 1988.
NVI has been ranked the leading Private Vocational Institute in the country by the visionaries of Uganda under skilling of Uganda awards for the last six years.
The Institute is accredited by the National Council for Higher Education and offers the following courses: Welding & Fabrication, Plumbing, Automotive Mechanics, Building construction, Electrical Installation Systems & Maintenance, Fashion and Design, Refrigeration & Air conditioning, Hotel & Institutional Catering, Cosmetology & body therapy, Agriculture, Early Child Hood Development, Secretarial studies, Accountancy and Cosmetology

Reports to: Deputy Director Training and Academics
Purpose of the Job:
The prime role of the Head of Section is to provide strong academic leadership. He/she is required to lead, manage and develop the section to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities
Key Result Areas
1. Leadership and Management
• Be responsible and accountable for setting and advancing the academic strategy of the section in line with Institute strategic plans and direction
• Develop and sustain appropriate structures for management, consultation, decision-making and communication with staff and students
• Mentoring other teachers in the subject/level of their specialty
• Holding and leading regular departmental meetings and ensuring the keeping of minutes
• Provide guidance and counselling to both staff and students
• Attend and participate in all Institute official activities
2. Responsibility for Teaching Students
• Performing the duties of Teacher /Instructor) i.e. Co-coordinating the teaching and learning of the subjects for which one is responsible; - Setting examination papers, co-ordinating marking schemes and moderating examinations and assessment.
• Ensuring timely and adequate provision of textbooks, materials, and equipment required for the effective teaching of the subject.
• Responsible for the inventory of all the training facilities and equipment in the section
• Develop new programmes in order to attract new students
3. People Management
• Ensure that Institute HR policies and procedures are implemented
• Ensure that staff performance is managed appropriately and in a way that is consistent with the expectations of the Institute
• Ensure that fair workload allocation processes are in place
• Ensure all staff have access to the necessary support to enable them to contribute fully and develop their skills and experience
• Ensure a safe and healthy environment for both staff and students, and full compliance with health and safety requirements
4. Financial Management
• take responsibility for the development of budgets for the requirements of the subject specific teaching tools and equipment and comply with Institute financial regulations other financial operating procedures and regulations
• ensure that Institute equipment facilities under the section's control are properly maintained and serviced as required
5. Quality Assurance
• ensure all activities are carried out to the highest possible standards and put in place the necessary evaluation and monitoring procedures to ensure both compliance and improvements such procedures will include teaching, and management of all resources
• ensuring that the maintenance and upkeep of equipment is regularly carried out
Persons Specification (Qualifications)
1. A Bachelor's Degree or Higher Diploma or Diploma in a relevant field from a recognized Institute.
2. Minimum 3 years' industrial experience with two (3 years teaching experience and must be registered as a teachers instructor with the Ministry of Education and Sports
3. Familiar with vocational related curriculum development
4. Have excellent training facilitation skill and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
