JOB DETAILS:

Main Purpose of the Job:
To manage the TAF (AIC) computer networks, and to install, configure and maintain user hardware and software (s)

Key Outputs
• User PCs configured and installed
• User software on all user PCs installed
• Operational TAF (AIC) computer networks ensured
• Email server function managed
• Anti-virus and Anti-spam systems maintained

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Set up TAF (AIC) Soroti Region Project user PCs (and their operating system, if necessary) and ensure their optimum performance
• Configure servers, switches, routers, hubs, users, client PCs and network printers for proper sharing and access to network services according to the set policies
• Install the required user software on PCs
• Understand the application of Universal Design for learning principles of physical layout, software, hardware, and peripherals, along with the rationale for their use
• Learn creative ways to construct simple and relatively inexpensive low technology devices
• Administer the network firewall and overall internal network security
• Monitor the networks technical performance and recommend appropriate measures
• Perform routine backups and archival of all files stored on the network to assist with disaster recovery
• Give basic operational support to staff on IT systems used at the region
• Attend workshops and visit relevant websites in order to keep up to date with developments in the IT industry
• Participate in conducting IT training workshops at the region Offices
• Administer and manage the e-mail server for efficient handling of TAF (AIC) staff e-mail services
• Maintain up-to-date Anti-virus and Anti-spam systems across the network
• Educate staff about the best practices to avoid virus/spam risks
• Funds to purchase the identified anti-virus and anti-spam systems

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Information Technology Officer
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
• Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.

Required Experience and Skills
• 3 years in a networking environment. Network management, leading to MCSE/CCNA/A+ certification,
• Knowledge of MS Windows, Linux operating systems, knowledge of MS Office suite of programs,
• In depth knowledge of computer network system protocols (IP addressing, TCP/IP networks),
• Good knowledge of the procedures used in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of IT hardware and software Server and desktop virtualization
• Key Skills
• Skills in application software and statistical packages used at TAF (AIC) • Skills in administration of MS Windows or Linux server operating systems
• Communication and Training skills.
