Overall Purpose of the Job
The Instrumentation Engineer provides site-level support for all electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring reliable and efficient operation of blending, packaging, and facility equipment. This role encompasses maintenance, troubleshooting, compliance, and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance and Support
• Maintain plant and equipment in a safe, reliable condition to achieve production and efficiency targets.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance for electrical systems and instrumentation.
• Install, test, and troubleshoot electrical components and wiring systems.
2. Performance Monitoring and Reporting
• Develop maintenance plans and SOPs, and document troubleshooting procedures and repair activities.
• Monitor system operations using diagnostic tools (e.g., voltmeters, process meters, network analyzers).
• Perform structured root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
3. Compliance and Safety
• Apply and enforce safe work practices, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and Arc Flash safety standards (NFPA 700).
• Ensure compliance with local and international electrical standards, ISO standards (9001, 22000, 14001, 18001), and company safety protocols.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure safety measures are integrated into operations.
4. System Design and Optimization
• Design and implement modifications to electrical and instrumentation systems to improve performance.
• Maintain and improve SCADA operations and interface with industrial controls.
• Analyze and address deviations in equipment performance from standard operating parameters.
5. Collaboration and Training
• Work closely with operators, technicians, contractors, and other departments to ensure alignment on technical and operational needs.
• Train and coach personnel in instrumentation and electrical systems.
• Foster collaboration across teams to improve system performance and meet business demands.
6. Vendor and Inventory Management
• Act as a contract manager for instrumentation/electrical vendors and suppliers.
• Evaluate and control inventory of engineering spares and ensure high-quality supplies.
7. Other Responsibilities
• Handle callouts and adapt to flexible working hours as needed.
• Perform additional duties as delegated by the Bottling Plant Manager or company management.
Qualifications and Competencies
Educational Requirements
• University Degree in Electrical Engineering and Automation.
Experience
• At least 5 years of experience in FMCG operations and maintenance, preferably in the bottling industry.
• Practical expertise with electrical equipment, PLCs, and instrumentation.
• Mechanical engineering knowledge is an advantage.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in PLC systems (Siemens preferred), SCADA, HMI, VFDs, and servo systems.
• Advanced knowledge of calibration for process instruments (e.g., temperature, pressure, flow, level).
• Experience with troubleshooting industrial networks (Ethernet, DeviceNET, ControlNET).
• Familiarity with SAP, AutoCAD, pneumatic systems, and instrumentation software.
Knowledge Areas
• Reading and interpreting PLC codes, schematics, and P&ID diagrams.
• Maintenance methodologies: RCM, MTTR, MTTF, FMECA.
• Bottling processes (e.g., blow-moulder, filler, capper, labeller, packer machines) and utilities.
• ISO standards and World Class Manufacturing/Lean Manufacturing principles.
Soft Skills
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams.
• Organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.
Physical Demands
• Ability to perform tasks involving standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 75 lbs.), and operating in environments with temperature changes, dust, and machinery noise.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to callouts.
Computer Skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, and instrumentation tools (e.g., Visual Basic, AutoCAD).
