Job Title: Interfaith Relations Manager
Reports to: Country Director
Duty Station: ADRA Uganda Head Quarters – with regular travel to the field.
Job Objective:
The IRM will collaborate in the implementation of the ADRA Uganda Country Strategic Plan, Change Goal 3 & 4. These Change Goals are aimed at enhancing ADRA’s approach in strengthening civil society through faith-based CBOs and engagement with the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) at the local and national levels.
The IRM will also be responsible for a broad and complex set of assignments related to the day-to-day coordination of ADRA-Uganda Union-Conference-Field Offices-IRCU. This position requires an ordained pastor with strong managerial/administrative and facilitation skills and comfortable in inter-religious discussions sensitivity.
The IRM should expect to spend no less than 40% of their time out of office, meeting with faith communities and religious leaders and building the civil society capacity of faith-based CBOs.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Support the Office of the Country Director with interfaith communications, interfaith representational functions, as well as coordination and outreach to diverse members of the IRCU
2. Provide oversight to collating and systematizing documentation and media relevant information about ADRA Uganda’s inter-religious collaboration approach in the building of civil society
3. Support Programs Director & Programs Manager in the implementation and tracking of civil society partnerships through Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and partnership agreements
4. Support HR Manager in the sensitization of partners of ADRA’s Code of Conduct, Safe Guarding Policies and Complaints & Response Mechanism (CRM)
5. Work as a chaplain for ADRA as an organization and provide counseling services.
6. Assist the Advocacy & Public Relations Officer in the general development and distribution of reports, press releases, newsletters, pertinent to ADRA Uganda’s Change Goal 3 & 4.
7. Help organize events that promote inter-religious peaceful coexistence and building of civil society through conférences, webinars and other creative initiatives
8. Develop and implement a comprehensive program to identify, cultivate, and solicit donations from various faith communities and structures
9. Research and create a pipeline of prospective faith community partners. As opportunities arise, actively attend relevant community and faith-based events that have potential to yield new partnerships and revenue for the partnership
10. Build awareness of ADRA Uganda as a faith-based NGO and the services that ADRA Uganda can provide to faith community members
11. Serve as contact for IRC under the supervision of the Country Director in liaison with the Union
12. Build the civil society capacity of faith-based CBOs using ADRA Uganda’s Triangle of Change
13. Coordinate the monthly interfaith committee meetings in the district where ADRA Uganda is operating (recruit new members, develop agendas, etc.)
14. Manage and schedule volunteer groups from faith communities on how they can help with ADRA Uganda activities (in consultation with Project Managers and the Program Manager)
15. Coordinate faith leader involvement in ADRA Uganda’s various activities including project launches, hand-over ceremonies, ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, advocacy events, week of prayers, etc
16. Coordinate special projects and organizing local events such as the International Day of Prayer, Global Youth Weak, End It Now, World Refugee Day/Sabbath, etc
17. Participate in public speaking/preaching/presentation engagements, acting as an Ambassador of Peaceful Coexistence for ADRA Uganda. Public events may require attending worship services of varying denominations and/or religions
18. Serve as a liaison between faith communities and ADRA Uganda to ensure a meaningful relationship with is developed and tracked
19. Work closely with the Country Director to ensure appropriate stewardship of relationships with different faith communities
20. Utilize volunteers and/or interns to implement programs as needed
21. Be an outstanding, confident, and knowledgeable spokesperson for ADRA Uganda
Job Specification
• Ordained Pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
• Graduate (Master’s) degree in the social sciences or a relevant pastoral/ministerial field
• Strong organizational/planning skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail, often under tight deadlines
• Strong communication, written and interpersonal skills with evidence
• Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently, and with multi- cultural/multi-religious
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, and Social Media web platforms
• Ability to work in fast- paced, open, team- oriented, business casual office
• Experience working with diverse faith communities
• Passion and understanding of ADRA Uganda’s mission and the desire to promote it!
• Must have working experience with related with interfaith coordination
• Extensive background in training and development with a specific focus on organizational development, leadership development, inter-religious team and trust building, communication, decision-making and conflict resolution.
• Ability to travel into complex settings
