Job description

Role Overview:
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the Key Stage 3 Humanities curriculum and providing ESL support to students, ensuring they achieve their academic potential and develop a strong foundation for further learning.

Key Responsibilities:
Humanities Duties:
• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons across the Key Stage 3 Humanities curriculum.
• Assess, record and report on the development, progress, and attainment of pupils.
• Employ a range of teaching methods to ensure effective learning for all students, adapting materials as needed for individual needs.
• Keep up to date with changes in the National Curriculum and relevant teaching methodologies.

ESL Duties:
• Provide targeted English language support for non-native level speakers.
• Develop and implement ESL programmes tailored to individual student needs.
• Collaborate with other teachers to support students' integration into mainstream classes.
• Use diagnostic assessments to identify areas of improvement and tailor lessons accordingly.

General Duties:
• Contribute to the pastoral care and wellbeing of students.
• Participate in school events, meetings, and continuous professional development (CPD) activities.
• Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.
• Foster a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and promotes respect and tolerance.

Qualifications and Experience:
• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE).
• Proven experience in teaching Humanities at Key Stage 3 level.
• Experience in ESL teaching and support.
• Knowledge of the National Curriculum as it pertains to Humanities.
• An understanding of the unique needs of international school students.

Skills and Qualities:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Adaptability and creativity in lesson planning.
• Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
• A commitment to inclusive education and supporting students of all abilities and backgrounds.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
