JOB DETAILS:
Purpose of position
The Laboratory Technologist will perform molecular and malaria parasites culture for the GSK project

Job Description
1. Identify potential study participants and screen them for consenting and recruitment into the study
2. Perform malaria parasite culturing and assay experiments
3. Perform molecular and genetic experiments
4. Perform Malaria microscopy and record results according to the standard Laboratory techniques as laid down by the W.H.O guidelines.
5. Recruit patients into the study using Good Clinical and Laboratory guidelines as described in the study protocols
6. Collect and prepare field samples according to standard guidelines for transportation from the study site to research laboratory facilities.
7. Keep all records of laboratory activities and inventory of all laboratory equipment and supplies
8. Performing laboratory quality assurance for all laboratory procedures

Qualifications and other desirables for the job:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology or Biochemistry
2. At least one year of working experience in a malaria genomics setting with competence in molecular techniques, malaria parasites culture, good communication and scientific report writing skill
3. Valid Annual Practicing License
4. Experience carrying out research
5. Excellent attention to detail
6. Must have good computer and interpersonal skills.
7. Must have valid GCP and HSP certificates
