MSF/EPICENTRE IS RECRUITING IN MBARARA Epicenter is a Non-Government Organization created by Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF) in 1987 to help improve the quality of its field interventions. Since 1996, Epicenter has been a World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating center for research in epidemiology and response to emerging diseases. Epicenter’s work hinges around three main activity areas: clinical research. field epidemiology and training.

Laboratory technologist (2 positions)
Location: Epicenter Mbarara Research Centre
Reports to: laboratory manager
Duration: 1year contract renewable
Start date: 1st may 2017

General responsibilities (not exhaustive)

• Perform analyses and report results of laboratory procedures performed in the laboratory, according to GCLP standards.
  
• Participate in all routine laboratory activities: Hematology, Clinical chemistry, Smear microscopy, and culture, drug susceptibility testing, media preparation, PCR and others as applicable
  
• Participate in specimen collection, analysis and interpretation of results
  
• Participate in development and implementation of Standard Operating procedures
  
• Ensure that the procedures are performed following standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Medical Laboratory sciences (BMLS) or its equivalent from a recognized institution. Must be registered with Allied Health Professionals council.
  
• Experience in laboratory procedures (Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, microscopy, molecular biology and Culture i.e. bacteriology and/or TB )
  
• Applications knowledge of using word, excel and power point
  
• Experience/knowledge of GCLP and lab safety requirements
  
• Desirable field experience with MSF or other NGOs, research experience is a plus
