Position title: Lead Education Coordinator

Reports to: Education Pillar Manager
Duration: 12 month Fixed Term
Dependent on successfully meeting 6 months’ probation period
The Cotton On Foundation is passionately driven by our team to create sustainable change in the environment and lives of those in need. The Cotton On Foundation has been working in Uganda since 2007, beginning with a health assistance intervention to the village of Mannya. Work has expanded to Busibo and Namabaale central villages, with potential that the Foundation will continue to work with additional villages in the future.

POSITION PURPOSE:
The role of the Lead Education Coordinator is to work alongside the community and schools in order to provide sustainable, exemplary education in the schools of Busibo Area Projects, Lwengo District. The Lead Education Coordinator will be committed to the Cotton-On Foundation goal of establishing 20,000 educational places by 2020.
The role will promote improved learning environments and community participation in education activities. Act as ‘Agitators of Change’ with teachers, School Management Committee (SMC), Support in advocacy in the reduction of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGB) and be a passionate advocate of children and child protection, Parents Teachers Association (PTA), drive community engagements, and shake up existing norms to deliver on key project milestones and school improvement and development programs. He or she must be a driver of change for Quality Education Standards (QES) and strategically lead the Action planning sessions (AAPs) with supported schools and providing ongoing Champion Teachers support. More actions being achieved to a higher standard with a focus on school QES sustainability across all supported schools.
The Lead Education Coordinator will also commit to the provision of a quality education by implementing the Quality Schools Model in Central and outreach programs to create further opportunities in life for children by;
1. Being amongst the quality schools in Southern Uganda
2. All children having the opportunity to receive a quality primary education (at a minimum)
3. Providing access to education for students with special needs as well.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor of Education. Qualifications in Primary Education or Teacher Training background. From recognized Universities.
• Proven experience of:
a. Subject matter experts on all areas of Quality Education Model QEM (Wellbeing,Teacthing and Learning, Ever better, Leadership and Governance,Culture,Monitoring and Evaluation, Buildings and Resources and Community engagement)..
b. Practical critical thinker to support schools and school management committees in Annual Action Planning (AAP) achievements and be a driver of school improvement plans across all supported schools.
c. Secondary School coordinator to be experienced in Secondary School operations
Has proven experiences in the following areas:
• Relationship building in rural communities and passionate about working in rural schools to drive changes.
• Detailed and accurate reporting of performance and achievement (Has interest and attention to details).
• Diverse knowledge in education programming (has a hands on experience on active/practical teaching and learning using local resources), and a personality who has resilience as well as a consensus builder
OTHER SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ATTRIBUTES AND PERSONAL QUALITIES:
• Good interpersonal skills, high level of integrity and good moral conduct
• Excellent written English and computer skills
• Self-directed and capable of working with minimum supervision
• Ability to work within tight deadlines for proposal development / reporting
• Strong commitment to Cotton On Foundation’s cause and values
• An open personality and acceptance of all races, creeds and cultures
• Licensed, and willing to travel by motor bike
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The candidate must be able to travel and live in the field locations in the rural areas of Southern Uganda.
Education Program implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
• Ensure the timely implementation of education activities, helping to ensure quality of delivery, and assist the teachers in addressing any challenges in Mannya and the outreach schools.
• Responsible for reporting school progress in terms of school conditions and performance.
• Support schools in continuous school improvement programs.
• Assess, identify, enroll and support children with special needs and be able to make disability/special needs inclusion in education programming.
• Collect data on school enrollment, retention and ensure accuracy and consistency at all times.
• Liaise with the Education Program Coordinator to ensure that buildings and school compounds meet the standards of safe learning environments.
• Advocate for community education in support of children quality education.
• Implementing key project activities like Teacher Mentoring Program (TMP), Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Raising Voices (RV), SMC/SGB and PTA.
New Education Programme Development and Expansion:
• Work with the Education Program Co-ordinator to conduct scoping studies for new education projects or expansion of existing projects.
• Support eReader expansion, training, monitoring and follow up with the learners, ensuring that the problems with the devices are trouble-shooted as well as project manager support.
Monitoring and reporting:
• Deliver, monitor and report on the above and all other Head of Teacher Development (HTD), and Head of Student of Welfare (HSW) projects. e.g. Raising Violence- Attend committee meetings, support with training and workshop delivery, community outreach and engagement, poster refreshes, wall mural painting, escalate challenges and successes reporting back to HSW.
