About the Role
We are offering a Legal Fellowship based in Kampala, Uganda, the Legal Fellow will contribute to our general operations and the deal execution of our investment facilities’ providing financing to borrowers.
Among others, the Legal Fellow will be responsible for:
• Legal Due Diligence: working with the Senior Legal Associate to carry out initial review of documentation from borrowers and compilation of Legal Due Diligence checklists;
• Preparation of transaction documents: working closely with the Senior Legal Associate and iGravity Investment Associates to provide initial drafts for transaction documents, review and assist in completing their registration with relevant offices;
• Internal risk, compliance and governance: supporting the Senior Legal Associate in providing ad-hoc internal legal support to iGravity including responding to general legal queries, preparation of Board resolutions, compilation of meeting minutes and developing internal materials (AML, KYC, HR and other compliance/ risk policies);
• General legal support, supporting the Senior Legal Associate, investment associates and management on the day-to-day management of legal and transactional risk.
Who you are
We are looking for an independent team player with documented legal work experience in impact investing, banking, PE, or VC funding, ideally with a development angle. Key attributes / skills for this exciting role are:
• Degree in Law (LLB) (Masters Degree is an advantage) and at least 1-2 years of relevant work experience in a top tier law firm (with demonstrated experience in banking & finance) or inhouse legal experience working in a financial institution (including development finance or impact investment);
• Demonstrable experience in working in finance and/ or investment transactions including legal documentation of debt and/ or equity transactions, contract review and drafting and carrying out legal due diligence on borrowers entities in Uganda;
• General understanding of financial instruments, collateral documents and processes for registration.
In addition, the ideal candidate will bring:
• The ability to organise your own time and tasks, including taking responsibility while keeping a transparent and open dialogue with your team across national borders;
• A detail oriented approach with strong analytical skills a practical application of legal principles, a quick learner with attention to detail while having a practical understanding of legal and regulatory practices;
• Convincing communication skills, with full proficiency in English and mastering MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint).
Who you will work with
You will work closely with Priscilla Busulwa, Senior Legal Associate under the general oversight of Elizabeth West, the Co-Head of Investments, and colleagues in the local iGravity office. You will become part of a dynamic team and organisation with colleagues in Zurich, Kampala, Nairobi and Milan.

Our working style is flexible and collaborative; we highly appreciate the benefits of being and working together both digitally and physically, therefore, we adopt a hybrid work arrangement with the expectation to meet at the workspaces in Kampala three times a week on average.
