Legal Officer

Preamble:
We are looking for a professional Legal Officer who will actively contribute to the UGAFODE’s overall performance objectives.

The role holder will report to the Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for providing high quality legal advisory services to all stake holders in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures and the law.

Specific Responsibilities include‘

• Offer legal advice to management and staff on issues relating to the operations, procedures and policies of the organization
• Ensure registration of UGAFODE’s interest; namely mortgages, caveats and debentures on ownership documents pledged by clients
• Draft and review legal all documents and other collateral securities relating to UGAFODE’s business.
• Routinely represent UGAFODE in courts of law and any other fora and design appropriate litigation strategy to monitor progress of litigation matters.
• Providing legal advisory and interpretation services to management and staff to ensure compliance with the law.
• Perusing and drafting contracts where and when necessary.
• Providing advice on litigation, litigate and or monitor assignments with external lawyers
• Perusing and reviewing loan documents and loan files where and when necessary
• Managing the registration of the company documentation and interests in the pledged securities with different Government registries.
• Managing all the pledged securities by borrowers.
• Preparing release letters for securities after completion of the loans.
• Providing general legal advice on legal recovery processes and drafting the necessary demand notices. '
• Allocating cases for recovery and following up with external lawyers.

Desired Qualifications, Experience and skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Post Graduate Diploma in legal practice and an enrolled Advocate of the High court.
• At least 2 years’ experience in the legal field preferably in a financial institution.
