Locum Laboratory Technologist
Position Code: LLT -822
Reports to: Laboratory Manager
Station: Entebbe
Period: 3 months
Job Purpose:
The position holder will primarily be responsible for conducting a laboratory project aimed at assessing human plasma IL-33 and IL-1 RAcP by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA), and participating in laboratory assays to determine immune responses to selected vaccines. This work will be nested within the POPVAC set of trials (http://dx.doi.org/10.1136/bmjopen-2020-040425).
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Principal duties;
• Participate in planning the laboratory experiments;
• Conduct the laboratory assays and analysis of results, with the support of supervisors;
• Ensure that required reagents and supplies are insufficient stocks and are stored appropriately;
• Find and read literature relevant to the work; participate in sharing knowledge through laboratory meetings and journal clubs;
• Prepare and review standard operating procedures;
• Implement GCLP practices and engage in proactive problem prevention of GCLP practice;
• Enter and clean laboratory data, and prepare reports on experiments; and,
• Help with other laboratory procedures and projects as and when required.
Person Specification
• BSc Biological sciences field from a recognized Ugandan university;
• GCLP training/ current Allied Health Professions license;
• Should possess at least one-year experience working in a laboratory technologist (or related) role in a research setting, or equivalent post-graduate internship experience;
• Experience in processing blood samples from research study participants;
• Experience in conducting enzyme immunoassays (ELISA, ELISpot, or Luminex) is essential;
• Should possess analytical and conceptual thinking skills;
• Thoroughness;
• Reliability; and,
• Concern for excellence
