JOB DETAILS:
InfraCo Africa, a member of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), a multi-government donor-funded, infrastructure development and finance organization, and Grindrod, a South Africa based integrated freight logistics and shipping senrice provider, are jointly developing the Lake Victoria Marine Transport Project (the Project). through the East Africa Marine Transport Company Limited ("EAMT"). The Project will implement an efficient and scheduled marine freight roll-on/roll-off service across Lake Victoria initially between Port Bell and Mwanza South mainly for trucks. eleQtra Limited (“eleQtra"), in its capacity as principal developer of lnfraCo, is leading the development of the Project.
EAMT now seeks to recruit a qualified and competent candidate to fill the position of Managing Director to operate the marine freight service. KPMG has been contracted to facilitate the recruitment process
The role
The Managing Director will oversee both the construction of the vessels and implementation of the project and business plans. She/he will also be expected to provide insights and direction on the implementation of committed and planned project and business activities to ensure they remain on time, in an environmentally friendly manner, within the approved budget, whilst ensuring growth of the business..

  Key duties and responsibilities will include the following:
• Identify and oversee the contractors and operators for the construction and operation of the company assets, oversee the works of the consultants and technical advisors and to supervise the operations of the company.
• Ensure proper administrative processes are put in place for efficient operations and take responsibility for infrastructure planning, project management, procurement, logistics management, quality management for the entire company.
• Manage revenue and maintain budgetary control on the operational expenses.
• Ensure compliance with requirements of existing permits and where necessary apply for and obtain all permits, licenses, approvals and documentations required for operation of the company.
• Ensure compliance to IFC performance standards on Health and Safety, and PIFG/ Grindrod operating plans and procedures.
• Ensure compliance and fulfilment of the company business plan and strategies
• Identify and oversee risk management procedures during project construction and business operations
• Effectively manage performance of staff, consultants, contractors and suppliers
• Collaborate and liaise with stakeholders on all matters relating to company set up and operation.
• Manage public relations and act as the face of the company.


  Minimum Requirements
• Experience in operation of marine freight services across international waters or cross border lakes and rivers.
• At least 10 years‘ work experience in clearing and forwarding, transport, freight and logistics, or commerce, 5 of which must be at Senior Management level;
• At least 5 years‘ experience in working with and reporting to the Board of Directors;
• Experience in fleet health, safety and environmental management including policy development and implementation
• Must hold at least a Bachelor's degree and in Accounting. Economics, Commerce, Procurement, Civil Engineering, Business Administration or Management from a reputable institution. Master's degree in any of the mentioned fields and membership to a professional body will be added advantage.
• Duty station will be Kampala with regular travels within East Africa.
