ABOUT US:
Share in Opportunity ( SAO ) Uganda is a Christian child centered Non-government organization. It envisions a holistically developed child within the community. SAO, started her community development intervention in 1991 as a small save an Orphan program. Its mandate is the expression of Christian care to children in need irrespective of race, gender, creed, nationality and religious or political conviction. SAO was registered in 2002 as an N60 by Ministry etlnternelAl1‘airs Uganda and is affiliated to Baptist union of Uganda the organization has a Board of Trustees and a Board of Directors who support the Secretariat to execute SAO mandate to the targeted populations.
The organization operates in 7 districts of Uganda with integrated key pillars namely; Child Protection, Education, Youth development, Agricultural Enterprise Development & Food Security, environmental management, HIV, water, sanitation & health, Institutional capacity building & strengthening.
Purpose of position
We are seeking a highly competent, self driven person who will provide overall leadership, strategic direction and management and, guide the development and implementation of SAO strategy. S/he will represent SAO vision, mission and values to all stakeholders. S/he will be responsible for management oversight of the organization by ensuring resource mobilization, financial and programmatic support management to staff and partners, partnership development and communications. The National Director reports to the Board of Directors..
Key responsibilities
Leadership and strategic management
• Guide the development and implementation of SAO strategy.
• Model servant leadership in order to preserve, uphold and promote the organization mission, principles and core values.
Board relations
• Oversee the development and compliance of the organization policies.
• Ensure SAO Board of Directors’ resolutions are implemented.
Operations management
• The National Director is responsible for the annual planning and budgeting, manages the implementation of plans, and reporting of measurable outcomes.
• Ensures the organization's programme achieves scale, efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability.
• Oversees programme planning, management, and evaluation through implementation of innovative partnerships.
• Ensures and demonstrates good stewardship of resources, and maintains professional relationships.
Compliance
• In consultation with the Board of Directors; ensures the fiscal, legal and programmatic integrity of the organization.
• The National Director is responsible for accurate and timely reporting to relevant statutory authorities and to donors.
People management
• Recruits, develops, motivates, manages, and evaluates personnel, including staff, advisors, and volunteers, to promote the purpose and achieve the goals of the organization.
• Develops and implements effective training programmes and equitable human resource systems to invest in and retain quality staff.
Resource mobilization / Funding raising
• In collaboration with the Board of Directors, the National Director ensures that the mobilization of resources is adequate in order to achieve short-term and long-term strategic goals.
• Develops and implements together with management, a fund raising strategy that mobilizes resources.
• Develops proposals to meet needs identified at community levels that can attract donor funding.
Relationships and advocacy
• Represents SAO before the public authorities and other actors, and is the main liaison person of SAO with the media.
• identifies, develops and maintains effective relations with all stakeholders, including government, bilateral and multi-lateral agencies, donors and sponsors and partners.
• Develops and implements, together with staff, a communications strategy to promote the organization brand.
Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Management, Leadership and Organisational Development, Business Administration, Human Resources, Finance
• 10+ years of senior management experience, preferably with a nonprofit organisation
• Strong public relations, marketing, and fundraising experience
• Knowledge of leadership and management principles related to nonprofits
• Proven success working with a board of directors
• A mature Christian with a good reputation.
• Dynamic and charismatic team player who enjoys being the public face of an organization
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced degree, or MBA
• Experience managing budgets
• Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
