Purpose:
We are seeking a dedicated New Life Homes Manager to provide managerial oversight to the New Life Homes, a licensed residential care facility for street-connected boys, ensuring holistic care is offered with resettlement in a home and family as the end goal for each child.
Duty Station:
This position will be based in the New Life Homes, Nakasajja, plus the Abaana Office, Kira, with some field work approximately 20% of the time. Being residential at the New Life Homes is a requirement 2-3 nights a week.
Personal Qualities:
• As Abaana is a Christian organization supported mainly by churches from the UK and Ireland and works mainly with church partners in Uganda, there is an operational requirement for this role that we require a born-again Christian.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Essential:
o Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work & Social Administration, Social Sciences).
o Must be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and online communication.
- Desired:
o Master’s Degree in a relevant field (Development Studies, International Development, or similar).
o Qualifications in Project Planning or Monitoring & Evaluation.
o Able to speak Luganda at a conversational level.
o Experience working with people from overseas, particularly English-speaking and grant-making organization's.
Experience:
• Essential:
o At least five years’ experience in a supervisory and managerial role in the NGO setting (preferably Christian NGO).
o At least three years of experience in managing plans, budgets, and reporting.
o At least three years’ experience liaising with a government office, preferably for compliance and reporting.
o At least three years of driving (automatic essential, manual preferred) with a clean driving permit.
o At least three years in a setting where residential care is provided to vulnerable children and youth.
Main Duties:
• Managing all staff and ensuring that there is adequate staff cover at all times.
• Counselling the boys at the New Life Homes, helping with discipline, overseeing their educational needs and ensuring all activities carried out are designed for their holistic well-being and development.
• Taking a lead in planning, monitoring, evaluating and reporting.
• Taking a lead in overseeing finances, including the development and management of a budget.
• Taking a lead in Government liaison and directing other staff in their participation in District and MGLSD events and activities.
• Ensuring a strong Christian pastoral environment is in place for all staff and children.
