Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation (WCDI) is the interdisciplinary and internationally focused unit of Wageningen University & Research Centre. CDI works on processes of innovation and change through facilitating innovation, brokering knowledge and supporting capacity development.
Wageningen UR Uganda (WUU) is implementing a 4-year ISSD Plus project funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kampala. The programme aims to strengthen the development of a vibrant, pluralistic and market-oriented seed sector that is able to address key challenges that hamper the seed sector development such as seed quality assurance and availability of foundation seed. ISSD Plus Project is implemented in collaboration with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) for public varieties and food crops and private sector for vegetable seed.
Wageningen UR Uganda is anticipating funding for a 2-year Nutrition and Income Generation (NIGI) project funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kampala. The NIGI project aims to contribute to healthier lives and more resilient livelihoods of refugees and host communities West Nile Region of Uganda. NIGI project will do this by improving access to, and consumption of, nutritious crops and improving income for refugees and hosts in refugee settlement areas in West Nile Region.

Nutrition and Horticulture Project Officer – NIGI Project
Duty station: ARUA, West Nile.
Reports to: Project Manager
Key Results:
This position will focus on supporting activities implemented under pathway one which seeks to improve household level access to, and consumption of a range of nutritious crops including vegetables, fruits, legumes, and bio fortified crops. The driving force behind this pathway is to consider practical, long-term solutions for improving the diets of those living in protracted refugee contexts as well as the host communities.
The project is implemented in collaboration with East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer who will support with setting up and running demonstration plots for vegetable production and the position will require ongoing collaboration.
Knowledge, experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Agricultural economics/extension, or related field; 5 years’ experience working on projects related to horticulture and/ or nutrition promotion, and/or supporting home gardens in Ugandan
context; Experience working in refugee settlement areas, sensitivity to the context; Proven experience of integrating gender concerns into nutrition and/or home-garden projects; A hands-on individual with enthusiasm for field work; willingness to travel extensively to the field and in the settlement areas.
