About the role:
We are seeking a skilled engineer to lead our solar power plant operations. The ideal candidate should have experience in power plant operations and a strong understanding of electrical systems and controls. As the Operations Engineer, you will oversee the daily energy production of the solar Plant and ensure efficient production during shift to meet all factory safety, output, yield, cost, and quality targets.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To manage the Control Room, shift and ensure that the control room is constantly attended to.
2. To manage and oversee the daily production of the Power Plant
3. To act as the single point of contact to the Grid in terms of daily and expected power production.
4. To ensure compliance with requirements for environmental, health and safety in plant operations.
5. To implement and execute Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) System in the plant in accordance with safety policies.
6. To manage all Permit to Work System (environmental, health & safety) related to activities in the Power Plant
7. To monitor for efficient and safe operations, ensuring that all applicable internal procedures and regulatory requirements are met.
8. To interact closely with Power Plant personnel, especially with the Maintenance Engineer for daily activities' coordination.
9. To coordinate the response to alarms and troubleshoot issues as they arise
10. Any other duty that may be assigned from time to time.
Minimum Qualification and Experience
1. A Bachelor degree in Electrical engineering, renewable energy engineering or any related field.
2. At least 3 years’ experience in O&M of power plant
3. Registration with the Engineering Registration Board is an added advantage
Core Competency
1. Substantial knowledge of engineering practices, functions and processes involved in the operation and maintenance of a Power Station
2. Good knowledge and understanding of solar PV technology.
3. Knowledgeable in SCADA systems and data analysis
4. Knowledgeable in O&M of a power plant as a shift supervisor or plant operator in a control room. Knowledgeable in safe working practices.

The University with support from the Arab Republic of Egypt has established a solar PV power plant with capacity to supply 4MW of energy. It has been licensed by Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) to generate and sale electricity. Busitema University Fund (SMC) Limited is therefore seeking to recruit qualified, competent, and highly motivated people to join the solar power plant team.
