About the role:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Operations Manager to lead our solar power plant team. The ideal candidate will have experience in power plant operations and a strong understanding of electrical systems and controls. As the Operations Manager, you will be the de facto plant manager, lead the operations staff, and manage all aspects of operation and maintenance of the solar power plant.
You will ensure that all plant activities are carried out in a safe and complaint manner in accordance with company policy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. The operations manager is accountable for the performance of the solar plant as measured by plant availability, plant reliability and safety indices
2. To manage the solar plant, ensuring that all O&M works are undertaken in an efficiently and effectively manner.
3. To support proactively in the development of procedures and policies
4. To ensure all department workers adhere to the policies and procedures including HSE.
5. To produce periodic O&M plans in accordance with O&M manuals and international best practices.
6. To generate daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to management on the performance of the plant.
7. To maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly equipment healthiness checklist; Preventive maintenance planning; Shutdown planning; Daily reading logbook etc.
8. To proactively monitor the plant performance, analyse the plant KPIs, identify underperformance areas and manage the diagnosis and remedy related to underperformance.
9. To plan, organize, schedule, and direct the safe operation and maintenance activities at the site.
10. To interface with the O&M contractors to review the operation of plant equipment and systems continuously, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
11. To lead incident investigations and root cause analysis
Minimum Qualification and Experience
1. Advanced degree in Renewable Energy Engineering
2. At least 5 years’ experience in O&M of power plant.
3. Registration with Engineering Registration Board.
Core Competence
1. Proven experience with O&M of a power plant
2. Proper understanding of utility interconnections, metering requirements, Electrical and SCADA systems, medium voltage switchgear/circuit breakers/ protective relay systems, Inverters etc
3. Well conversant with regulatory framework and project agreements pertaining to O&M of power plants in Uganda. (Primary grid code Uganda, PPA, etc.)
4. Strong technical understanding of both AC and DC
5. Good knowledge and understanding of solar PV technology.
6. Strong approach to safe working practices
7. Excellent communication skills
8. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
9. Able to respond to changing priorities and emerging issues.
10. Stakeholder management capabilities. The role requires continuous liaison with key energy sector players including ERA, UETCL, and MEMD etc.
11. Strong problem-solving skills
