JOB DETAILS:
Main Purpose Of The Job
The trade and investment policy analyst will be the overall coordinator of the Trade, Investment and
Development thematic area of the SEATINI strategic. This thematic areas consists of the following
programs: Trade Justice Program; Investment for Sustainable Development Program; Agricultural
Trade for Rural Transformation Program and; Women and Economic Justice Program. The specific
responsibilities of the policy analyst will be as follows:
Policy analysis
• Lead policy research in areas of trade, investment and agricultural transformation to generate
• issues for policy advocacy.
• Take lead in the development of policy briefs, issue papers, working papers or Journal articles
• to be shared in different platforms at national, regional and global levels.
• Lead policy debates and campaigns on trade, investment, agriculture and related issues in
• national, regional and global platforms.
• Review research materials generated both internally and externally to clearly articulate SEATINI
• perspectives on various policy positions
Program management
• Lead in planning of projects under the thematic area from start to completion involving
• deadlines, milestones and processes
• Coordinate the development of periodic program and project work-plans and budgets
• Ensure alignment of the specific project to program objectives and targets
• Take lead in developing synergies and linkages across the different projects and programs
• to contribute to the thematic area
• Support all program and project teams to provide feedback on program/project
• performance to relevant stakeholders
• Ensure timely development of program and project narrative reports and submission to respective
• users.
• Offer mentorship to staff under his/her supervision
Fundraising and resource mobilization
• Identify fundraising opportunities for the thematic area and together with the respective program teams
• Give technical assistance in the development of project proposals
Networking and partnerships
• Participate in partner meetings and workshops and provide feedback on issues for organizational learning
• Identify innovations to propel SEATINI programs and ensure it remains current and relevant.
Monitoring and Evaluation
• Support the development of programs and projects log frames
• Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people in the organization
• Support the Senior Management team and the Executive Director to resolve complex problems regarding program/project operations
• Participate in monitoring and evaluation of program activities and take appropriate steps to ensure that the program achieves excellent results.
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
Required Qualifications:
• Master level degree in Economics, International Trade or Development Studies or other related field.
• Additional qualifications in project management, monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage.
Work Experience
• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis and program management.
• At least 3 years’ experience in program management at senior level in the NGO setting.
Key Competencies
• Knowledge of trade, investment and development related issues but candidates with a strong interest in engaging in this area will also be considered
• Ability to apply change, risk and resource management principles
• Ability to apply economic theories and concepts in different sectors of economic and sustainable development. Ability to conduct independent research on economic topics, determine suitability, validity and accuracy of data provided by different sources
• Proven experience as Policy Analyst in a reputable not for profit organization
• Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques, methods and principles
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Ability to prioritize, maintain clear timelines and deliverables
• Outstanding knowledge of reporting and budgeting
• Working knowledge of MS office and program management applications
• Excellent organizational and leadership skills
• An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities
• Excellent communication skills i.e. Excellent (English) writing skills
